What are the best wedges of 2020? What are players looking for? Aggressive grooves? A wealth of sole grinds? Finishes? Fully forged or cast and featuring technology?

Not too surprising since SM8 is a no-brainer, but a little surprised that the MG2 and Hi-Toe didn't finish higher...kudos to the Miz for finishing strong!

I wouldn’t choose any 2020 wedge because they virtually eliminate blast/splash shots from bunkers - the shot played by virtually every great bunker player in history - Player, Trevino, Rodriguez, Olazabal, Rodgers, Azinger, etc. The wedges used by these greats have wide heels and 12-15* of bounce!

 

When you shave off the heel, and reduce the bounce, you eliminate the splash/blast shot from bunkers and rough.

Almost all 2020 wedges have something resembling a C grind. When you have multiple wedges in your bag, why have all with basically the same grind, and low bounce? This limits the variety of shots you can hit/

Just got a miz T20 in the gap wedge. Its a full shot club for me so can't comment on short game action, but on a full shot its all you want for feel and performance. Exactly what you'd expect from Mizuno. Few notes on it: on the compact side, fairly wide sole w somewhat lower bounce, very rounded leading edge. Pretty pronounced teardrop look, if you want something super round this wouldn't be at the top of your list.

Lotta respect for the Vokey wedge lineup not because of of feel but looks and grind options are superb. That being said it’s a crime that only 1 of the top 5 wedges is a forged club. Thank you Mizuno

I went to get fitted and tried the SM8 ,MG2 and T20. The MG2 was not even close to the other two and the SM8 just was all around better in every way than the T20. It wasn't particularly close to me.

Yup totally agree with results, did a blind fitting of all wedges and although I wanted to replace my Mizuno T7s with T20s, SM8 was just another level and I had to get them.

The Vokey and Cleveland are good wedges. Have and used the SM6. However, not promoting the company, Warrior makes the best wedges for the money. The have clean lines, very low bounce and good for tight to medium lies. Many times works better then the others, clean crisp shots. Need to try before any comments.

Vokey makes high bounce wide sole wedges, in addition to their highly sculpted, low bounce wedges. I use a 56F/14 and a 60K/12. Plenty of bounce and sole.

I’ve always been a big Vokey guy. I don’t know if something small in my swing has changed the last month or so, but I replaced my old SM6 50 with a new SM8 50 and I can only play high shots with it. So high in fact that visually it appears to fly higher than my 60. Don’t get me wrong it’s a great quality club, I just think the change made to the CG is hurting my game at the moment. Nothing some lessons and practice won’t fix though.

Any thoughts?

I am a little suspicious of voting polls where the vokey bias can kick in (don’t get me wrong, I like vokeys).

It would be nice if the Mizuno wedge was given as much considerations as the other wedges.  I did not like reading the same reviews for both the ping glide 3.0 and the Mizuno T20 wedge.  Why am I reading the same feedback for both wedges?

The Miz and the Glide play VERY different in terms of feel. Miz is of my favorite full-shot wedges to date.

I use the 54f/14 and 60D/12.  Great wedges.  Bounce is your friend.

This is a popularity vote.  Mgs is based on performance testing.
