Nippon 1150GH Taper stiff

Just recently got fitted into the Nippon 1150GH Taper stiff. I played the project x 6.0 since i started golfing a couple of years ago, but couldn't find any reviews of the Nippon shaft anywhere? Anyone ever use these shafts or currently gaming them? Any feedback would be great!

The 950/1050/1150 line is an older line so not many people use them now from what I've seen - though they did some 'standard' in the Honma 737/747 line recently.

Theyre still good shafts but are overshadowed by the Modus 105/120 line.

I am personally playing the 1050 right now hard stepped in stiff. Great shaft and I didnt think I would like the ~108g class of shaft rather than the 120g - but I do!

From what I've read the 1150 plays a bit stiffer and is a slightly different profile then the 1050/950 shafts which is fine especially if you're coming from PX shafts which are known to be stiff.

You should like them - but if you did not hit the Modus 120/130 line - I would definitely do that before ordering.

the 1150 is a fantastic shaft with a much stiffer butt than the 950 or 1050 - its mid launch and spin and can truly fit many swing types across the spectrum - it weighs approx 113 grams in S and I use it and find it to be a very, very nice shaft that is much smoother than PX 6.0 but with similar weight , accuracy and ball flight characteristics

@third-times-a-charm oh sweet! Thanks for the insight! I never thought I'd play with Nippon because I've always played the project x 6.0 and they've always felt good besides the lower ball flight and stiffness. But after hitting 10-12 different shafts, it was the Nippon 1150 that came out on top. I will definitely try to hit to Modus!

That's awesome to hear! With the PX 6.0il I couldn't land many GIRs because the ball kept rolling off the greens. Maybe because of the roll the PX gets and that I tend to hit the ball low.

I spent some time in this shaft and liked them a lot. I was coming from an old set of MP33's with PX 5.5 to a new set of MP18's with the 1150 stiff flex. Played with these and then moved on to my current KBS $-Tapers (my swing speed went up quite a bit and these ended up working better for me). I still swing the 1150's from time to time and do enjoy how they feel.

Hey me too actually!  Been playing the PX 6.0 forever and a day but just got fit for the 1150 X-flex.

The only problem I have is ordering them myself...can't seem to find them on the Titleist custom options.  So I been trying to find out about the Modus 105 X-flex and go with that...

Hey, I'm in a similar boat but Titleist no longer seems to carry the 1150.  Thinking about going with the Modus 105 X-flex instead...any thoughts on how they would compare to the 1150?

I was fit into 1150 and they are fantastic. It’s a hidden gem of a shaft. Excellent feel but one thing to watch out is they are slightly counter balanced so swingweight may need to be considered. Demo clubs usually swingweight higher because of the adapter.

I would not compare the 1150 to the Modus 105. I know weight is similar but pretty sure profile is very different. In fact I haven’t found any steel shafts with a similar EI profile. It’s a unique shaft that doesn’t match the other NS Pro shafts or Modus.

I loved the 1150 but did not like the 105 Modus FWIW

A little more research and the 1150 profile is similar to a Dynamic Gold 120 BUT two things that are different....tip/butt ratio for 1150 is higher which I typically relate to launch so in theory the 1150 may launch lower which I have first hand experience to be true and the counterbalance I mentioned before.

The more I look into it the more I’m convinced the 1150 is unique. You either fit into it or you don’t. For those that fit into this shaft, it’s like our holy grail.

From anyone that has tried both, do any of the new Project X LZ iterations match up to the Nippon 1150GH? I have played the Modus 105 stiff and x-stiff, the Modus 120 stiff and x-stiff, and the Modus 125 stiff. The 1150GH still is better and different for me than any of them.  That being said, I've also had success with the Project X LZ 6.0, but didn't find it to be stable enough.  So, I was wondering whether a Project X LZ 6.5 or one of the newer models would be a comparison. I know the LZ has a stiffer butt and tip relative to the mid section than the traditional Project X, and it seems like most people go from Project X to 1150GH in the threads I've read.

Just a thought - I might just have to splurge for a set of the 1150GH. Does anyone know if you can still order them through Nippon? If my club-builder can do that, he'll at least comp the installation. Otherwise, I have to buy the set and pay for the pull and install.

This is a very curious shaft.

PS - does anyone know if the elusive Modus Tour 115 (not the wedge shaft) is close?

How is the balance point of the 1150gh -> being stiff in the handle, will it be somewhat counter-balanced in feel requiring a bit more head weight during assembly ?
