My Mavrik Sub Zero 3 wood did the same, you could actually see a distinct oblong of affected area covering the face, the heel and toe areas didn't have any rust spots - some light cleaning with a brillo pad has removed the spots though.

This happened to my epic speed after a rainy round of golf. It came off with a magic eraser. Seems to be a pretty common issue

Out of curiosity, is there a sticker on the clubface before they are shrinkwrapped?

I am just amazed. I had the rust on the face and coming from the edges of the flash face and told them about it. Within 5 minutes, they had an RMA processed and a new club on the way.  Very impressive customer support.

I have same problem with Mavrik 3 wood, waiting on a reply from Callaway. Had a XR Steel 3 wood for a number of years without this problem.

Glad I come across this thread. Exact same thing for me. Quite bad and rectangular in shape across the face. Think they need to do a recall  bought mine at Silvermere golf course. They are sending it off to Callaway and i will await a response

Hi I have the same problem with rust on a Mavrik 3 wood bought about the same time as you. Have contacted American Golf and they had a response from Callaway says head is not made of stainless steel and will be prone to rust if not kept dry afer use! I've never owned a club that went rusty. Am thinking of getting money back and buying a different club.

My brother never turned his in and it is weird how it’s forming in a rectangular shape. Says it doesn’t bother him lol

I own three Mavrik Max fairway woods and only one is rusting in this fashion with that exact pattern. Seems like a defect.

Purchased this in the spring and have used it twice and it seems there is some rust starting already.  I get that metal will rust over time but to rust with two rounds in and some range work is pretty sad.  Not the Mavrik woods this ones the Apex UW, great club but when my Titleist 909 5 wood looks better there is something wrong.  I reached out to Callaway and am waiting on a response back.

Hadn't seen this thread before today. I have a Mavrik Max 3W and 5W so I went and looked. Both maybe 12-18 months old.

 

Sure enough looks just like some of the photos above. I'd say the following.

 

1. I played 80+ rounds last year and on pace for 75 this year.

2.  I never noticed until I looked carefully. To be fair, I'm not Mr. Diligent about club cleaning.

3. I hit these 2 clubs amazingly well and have no plans to complain.

4. 5 seconds of magic eraser made them look like new. After 1+ year of regular use.

5. I can't see how this could be any kind of problem that would impact performance.

I had a 3 wood rust after a year and Callaway replaced it but it rusted again and they then squirmed and tried to say it was “user” error. My 5 wood rusted after 10 months and now the replacement 3 wood has rusted again. I am now waiting on Callaway to reply to my pro shop. It is now 3 clubs all gone the same. Mine are Mavrik max and my mates regular Mavriks seem OK.

I have owned Callaway for over 20 years but this is a repeat problem and I will not be buying anymore from them

I’ve been gaming the Mavrik 3 wood for over year and have no rust on mine. And I use it a lot. There are times when it’s even longer my driver - it’s the longest 3 wood I’ve ever played, by far. Absolute love it. I wish it came in a HL version though.
