Callaway Mavrik 3 Wood w/Rust

Noticed some small rust-colored spots on the face of my new Mavrik 3 wood recently.  I have only had it for about two months and don’t understand.  Clubs come in the house every night and kept pretty clean.  My buddy also bought one around same time and his is now starting to show rust spots, but not as much as mine.   Anyone else experience these "dots" on the face or know why this is maybe happening.  Was thinking of contacting Callaway directly to get an answer or possibly exchange/refund.  Mine and his were purchased directly from Golf Galaxy. 

BTW, I’m assuming they are, in fact, rust as it won’t come off with a cleaning by rag.

I have some on the face of my ping g410 3w. Not that bad though

Weird. Havent heard of this with any maverik club yet...and I believe the materials are all the same in the SS20 faces from driver through hybrids?

 

Maybe a bad batch? Who knows. Taylormade had some bad QC due to covid, I wonder if Callaway did as well.

 

At any rate, they will swap it out for you at no cost. They have great CS.

Do you practice at a sandy range? That could happen if you hit a lot of balls and don’t clean the face in between shots

Thats not rust.. thats coronavirus on your 3wood eating the face flesh away lol jk... yeah that shouldnt be happening no matter what... call callaway helpline.. they will definetly ship you a new one.

Cally customer service is amongst the best I’ve dealt with.  They will certainly make it right.

I’ve never seen anything quite like that. Very bizarre. The line on the heel side is so straight, there has to be a reason but I’m at a loss to imagine what it is. 
 

Nonetheless, that shouldn’t happen. I hope Callaway takes care of it.

I have the exact same problem. Bought the club several months ago and had not played over a month...pulled it out of the headcover last week and I have even more rust than yours. Did not seem to affect play but I will be calling CW.

No, we don’t have a sandy range, but I always wipe between hits or two.  And my buddy never even goes to the range.

I have the same om my 4W. Waiting answer from Callaway. This can be a big issue for them. Did you contact Callaway? Response?

I have had 3 and 5 woods [maverick] replaced within 3 weeks with new covers. The replacement 3 and 5 woods have also now rusted within 2 weeks in spite of drying off after play and leaving head covers off

This seems abnormal, although not all stainless steel is rustproof.

I have a mavrik 4 wood and mine is not doing this.

 

I clean it daily and I play every day. I also put the HC back on while it’s still wet after wiping down.

Maraging steels are often not stainless and can develop rust over time.

My mate at work had the same problem with an M3 3 wood. Took it back to the driving range where he bought it and Taylor gave him a new Sim. He's hitting that thing miles, result.

My friend has a Mavrik 3 wood and just asked me this question two weeks ago. He sent his original one back to Callaway and they sent him a new one that has yet again rusted. 
 

I have a Mavrik SZ fairway and have not see that issue. I told him keep sending it back in hopes he finally gets the new model sent to him in 2021 which hopefully does not have this same issue

Drivers are titanium, they won’t have a rust issue like the steel fairways/hybrids could.

I also can't help but chuckle at the desire for raw Callaway irons only to instead get accidental raw fairway woods 😅

Had my 3 wood 10 days did the exact same rust problem after using twice now it’s back at callaway awaiting results

DId you maybe get some fertilizer or something on the face from ground interaction and that has caused the rust kind of like how it can do funky stuff to putters? But as others mentioned a lot of these maraging steels aren't rustproof. Good on Callaway for fixing.

That is oxidation and oxidation requires moisture

My Mavrik 3 wood has the exact same thing. It's never bothered me. I actually think it looks kinda cool. I do however fully understand my thoughts should not be compared since I don't pay for my clubs....

 

But if it does bother you just call Callaway they will make it right.

I had a Mavrik Sub Zero 3 Wood do this after a couple of range sessions and one round. 
 

The store I got it from contacted Callaway and they replaced it with no issues. Replacement arrived the day we went into a national lockdown for a month so only got to play my first round with it last week. It’s rusted as well.  
 

going back to the store tomorrow to get fitted for a different 3 Wood. Not going to risk the 3rd one going the same way as this one.

My brothers just started doing this now. He got his from Callaway preowned around Christmas in like new condition. Do you think callaway will still replace it?
