In need of a good Golf Mat

I just pulled the trigger on the Fiberbuilt 7x4 Studio mat. Why? Because I was spending more time researching mats than practicing 🙂

I looked at everything. Some stuff is universally accepted as good quality but expensive, and everything else seems to circle in an ambiguous ocean of poor to OK with large price differences and few reviews. Lots of folks seem to take DIY approach and get good results, but I’m not a DIY capable guy.

The Fiberbuilt takes some heat for feeling unrealistic, which I agree with. I’ve hit off it at Club Champion and it definitely took a few swings to figure out the feel. However, what I didn’t need to do was figure out was how to repair a torn scapula muscle like I did last summer after hitting off terrible range mats.

I just ordered the mat today and hope to get it by next week.

I just set up my indoor hitting bay and the fiberbuilt flight deck ( bought on amazon ) was by far the best value option with a great warranty too.

The only problem with this mat is that the ball is always technically "above" your feet unless you are standing on something to level the height. I also imagine it moves basically every shot you hit.

I've had a Country Club Elite for the past 5 (almost 6) years and it has served me exceptionally well. I normally hit between 70-100 wedges 4-5 days a week with it and it does not exhibit any wear whatsoever. There are a few who complain about it being too harsh and causes joint pain and discomfort but I personally have RA and have not found this to be the case.

+1. I’ve hit 8k+ shots without any issues.

Looked at mats for a good 4-5 months not being able to decide if spending up to $700 was worth it for my garage setup. Finally gave up and just ordered the 4x4' EZ Tee Hybrid Hitting Mat for $290 with shipping included. Was hesitant ordering this because their customer service wasn't great when I was asking about this mat vs the other two they have on there. Never got an answer and couldn't find any review videos online. Figured if I didn't like it I wouldn't be out 2x the amount and could throw it out back to use. It shipped out and was delivered within a few days of ordering it. I've had this mat for almost 2 months now and it's been perfect, way better than expected. Bought foam pads to throw under it and some carpet tape but haven't used either of them because this is thick and heavy enough to stay in place. I only hit irons and wedges off of this in my garage but would take a tee easily for woods. Mat looks as good as it did when I got it after hitting balls every single night for 30 mins to an hour. If it does wear I can rotate it. Injury was a big factor looking into mats and I've had zero pain hitting off this sitting on my concrete garage floor. Would have ordered a 5x5' if I knew what I know now about this mat, but the 4x4' is big enough to hit woods off of so it's all good.

how about DWquail golf matts? They are about $350 and I believe one of the ranges I practice at uses this.

I hit hours and hours of balls there many times a week and I haven't had a single muscle injury. Seems to last quite a long time too.

Still stand by this review? I'm concerned about injuring my back again. Seems like I could add a little padding under it and it would be fine. I found them via a PXG fitting...

Yeah I still stand by that review and I hit balls off it just about every night until this past month. Mat still looks brand new. I had padding I bought when I got the mat but it's still sitting in the box because I haven't needed it. Mainly hit wedges down to 6-7 irons but you could hit anything. Wish I had a 5x5 but 4x4 has been fine for irons and even a hybrid. If you have a really bad back it's probably worth just paying extra for the fiberbuilt just to be on the safe side if you have the extra cash.
