Grafalloy Prolite info

Hi all,

Could anyone help me out with info on the prolite because I just bought a couple and I am having a hard time finding any specs.

Are the 35 and 3.5 different shafts?

All the info I can find states they have a 2" parallel tip but the ones I have got seem to have 3.5-4" parallel - Could they be for through bore heads like the old Titleists?  If so should they be tipped?

I bought the black/grey colour likr the second one in the picture here:

https://www.golfwrx.com/409192/flex-appeal-an-interview-with-shaft-guru-robin-arthur/

Does the colour have any significance?

Sorry for all the dumb questions.  Any help would be greatly appreciated

Not sure about the parallel tip section but pretty sure 2 inches is wrong. No one has only a 2 inch parallel tip section. I believe they were 3.5 or something similar. The 3.5 and 35 are the same. Both refer to the torque which was, 3.5. They also made a 4.5 shaft with you guessed it, higher torque. They came in both burgundy and gray, same exact shaft. Weight was I believe 62g-64g raw.

I could be remembering wrong but I think Grafalloy recommended blind boring these shafts into Titleist and that they did not recommend tipping them. They also made a fairway version which may have been why.

actually I've run across 2" parallel tip sections from time to time so they definitely do exist.  And the specs golfworks has for the prolite do show 2"

Never run across the black version but if anyone does, @Howard_Jones might know.

Golfworks still sells a Prolite shaft and they show a 2 inch parallel tip but that does seem kinda small.  I would not tip trim.  I recall some discussion on here from Howard Jones about the 35 and 3.5 versions possibly with the newer 3.5 versions being a little stiffer.

Titleist put a lot of the burgundy 35 ones in 975D drivers.  The graphics in the picture you are showing came after this period.  The successor to this shaft is the Prolaunch Red.

It's an older shaft but still very playable - I have a black 35 Prolite in a backup driver and have the FW version in a backup 4 wood.  Hope I got all the history right here.

ProLite 35 only had 2.0" long tip section.
This is the specs for year 2000-2001

Good to know on the parallel tip. That would be why I was remembering blind boring these shafts into the Titleists and not tipping.

Although they obviously made a longer tip version at least for Titleist because it was a standard option in the Titleist drivers and was thru bore installed.

Think it was Prolite, EI-70, YS-6, and Fuji Speeder for Titleist that were the options and all were installed thru bore.

Thanks for the replies everyone, although I'm still a little unsure about whether to tip or not.

@Howard_Jones  Hitahouse mentioned that you had talked about a difference between the 35 and the 3.5, do you know if the 3.5 has a 3.5 -4" parallel section?  Or could I have a shaft for a through bore head and if I do should I tip an inch or so?

They are 46" raw length if that makes any difference.

It seems to be 2 shafts of the same model in Tom Wishons DB, one of them marked 35, the other 3.5. Ive not been able to locate the "3.5", and those who has 3.5 on the shaft is only a reference to TQ as far as i know.

Have you measured how long the tip section actually is?

From 2002 True Temper included Grafalloy under the TT webside, but its FLASH and i dont have that on my computer, but you might take a look into the archives of WayBack Machine and look for ProLite made from 2002 and later, maybe there was another model?

Not sure if this is helpful but I found these Prolite shafts in my parts closet.  The Prolite R one has the '35+' mark on the opposite side.  The 35R one does not have the text on the opposite side.  All of these are .335 to .340 or so tip dia for about 3 inches.  The ones you are showing are from a later time and I don't think they are a bore-through variant.

To the question on tip trim, I'd go with no tip trim.  Golfworks advises no tip trim for driver or fairway installation with the Prolites they are offering.

Yes measuring it with a digital caliper seems to suggest a parallel section of 3.5 to 4".  I think I'll go with what you said Hita and go no tip trim but cut it half an inch long so I've got a little wiggle room.
