Peter Millar Hyperlight Merge Hybrid Jacket

Recommended Posts

I know there is a lot of talk about the Ping Norse jackets, but does anybody have any experience with this one from Peter Millar?  I'm guessing it's not as warm as the ping but wondering if it would be good enough for weather in the 40s with an under armour base layer. I played last week in some cold weather and realized I need to rethink my layers. Weather was in the mid 40s but dropped to the upper 30s plus wind. My under armour coldgear compression mock neck is good but I had a pretty thick 1/4 zip over it and an under armour vest. My goal is to lose some layers and just have a base and jacket. What do you guys think?

I have a few of them. I don't deal with weather in the 40's while I'm golfing much anymore based on where I live. but the few times I have I've worn the same setup you are talking about. Nike Combat Turtleneck and then standard polo with this on top. I was very comfy but will tell you the wind cuts thru the sleeves a bit. It's like wearing a warm vest with a second layer of Underarmour layering on your sleeves.

That’s spot on. I just bought the quarter zip version and the sleeves aren’t particularly warm. Wore it today in the mid 40s with a base layer and was fine walking but might have been a little cold in a cart. Really like the quarter zip however.

Thanks, great feedback. I was pretty warm wearing my vest the other day but the wind got pretty cold on my arms. I was hoping the jacket would offer more wind protection. Oh well, I might get it anyway because I feel like most jackets in this category are going to have similar issues with the sleeves. I was also looking at the puma primaloft but apparently everything is out of stock for these type of jackets unless you're a XXL size.

The Ping Norse is wind proof, but, too warm for me playing golf (fine for the driving range). It's possible, you might just need a wind breaker to wear over your mock neck and vest.

My vest is a zip up outer layer otherwise I would definitely do this. Unfortunately it looks like everything is out of stock so my options are limited. I'm pretty much between the Peter Millar I posted above or the Norse S2 Zoned version. Any idea if this one has wind resistant sleeves? I also like the style of the Peter Millar more and will probably get more use out of it outside of golf.

I think Ping claims wind resistance, but, I do not have any experience with it.

I like mine. It just a tad tight (gained some corona weight).  The Adidad frostguard I just bought bigger and fits great but just not as warm.  Arms are the problem and wind cuts thru.  Norse is better in that regard.

My suggestion would be to guy a patagonio nano puff, or under armour cold gear reactor jacket.

I play a ton of winter golf in 40-50 degree temp with a solid wind and I normally wear long sleeve shirt, normal polo, and then one of the above jackets and I am very warm and comfortable.

I will say that the Peter Millar jacket you posted is classy AF and looks good, but the two I mentioned above will surely be warmer.

Haha, yeah. I actually went to the Peter Millar site this morning and the black one I was thinking about is now sold out in my size. So in true golf addict fashion I changed direction altogether and bought a windproof merino wool sweater. I was leaning toward the Footjoy but didn't really like how baggy it looks, so I ended up finding this guy from Fairway & Greene. I gave them a call to confirm that it's completely lined through the sleeves and core. It actually ended up being a little cheaper than the Footjoy with that 30% off coupon code. I figure this sweater with my coldgear under armour base should be good for any cold weather into the low 40s. I'm never going to play in cold rain so this should do nicely. I also have a couple of warm vests if I really need to layer more. Maybe I'll revisit the jacket next year.

couple of posters mentioned the Ping Norse jacket. that will give you full sleeve coverage.

I've used mine off the course on colder days.

last year, about this time. I bought the full Norse, a couple of Ping mid layers, Breaker and Elden.

with proper layering including a merino sweater, it's all I've needed down to the upper 20's.

(don't ask why we felt the need to play at those temps)

How is the sizing on this? I got one similar from PM in large and it was somewhat small. I am a MED in std size PM polos.

I wear a large in PM polos and I got the large in this jacket (but the 1/4 zip version). It’s a tiny bit snug with the layers underneath but it’s not too snug.
