GC Quad / Foresight issues

Not sure how many people can help on this, but back at the end of October we got one of the GC Quad sim in a box set ups.  Near the beginning of November I started to have issues and have continued to have them.  They even went so far as to replace the laptop.  Every fix they’ve tried lasted for a few days then lag and crashing have continued.  Only now have I even thought about it being the quad itself.  Anyone else have any experience like this?  Any other insights would be appreciated.  I’m going to have to send everything back to be tested soon is what it looks like now...

Well, they replaced the laptop once already.  So I’m inclined to say the quad may be causing the issues, but it mostly shows up in the FSX software itself.  It will lag big time and crash some.  It will also occasionally not recognize the quad.  Now, the quad will have some really odd readings every once in a while (110 iron SS) and only reads my Driver roughly half the time.  It’s been frustrating for sure.  I think some of the tech guys are getting tired of me calling in.

Not owning one of these devices, but being a technical person, have you tried changing the cable that connects from the quad to the computer? I would assume its a usb cable, hopefully, and perhaps you have an internal issue within the cable itself causing the device to not be found, or have connectivity issues. Just a thought.

Mostly PING clubs, with TaylorMade woods.

Thanks.  I’ll try anything at this point.

Does the Quad perform fine when not connected to FSX software?  Have you used the Quad connected to the iPad app and does it have any issues?  For strange readings there is a process to capture the shot data and send to Foresight.  Are you wearing running shoes when any of the strange readings occur?  Reflective material on running shoes can sometimes cause issues.  Have you tried connecting the Quad wirelessly?

I run into issues as well and it’s almost always FSX software driven. Like others have said, check to see if you go wireless to the app if it works. You can run the app on your phon if needed. As far as wacky readings (longer shots with no tracers, 55* face closed, 700rpm driver spin) I usually see these with fudicials not being placed correctly or the Quad not being aligned correctly. Also during fittings if a player is drastically over the top with the face closed, you will get little or no data.

Thanks for all the insight.  I’ve been lucky the last 2-3 times there hasn’t been any lag issues.  I’ve tried to keep everything unplugged from the laptop while it boots up, then plug the quad and TV into it.   The quad by itself seems to do fine.  Once they run all their test I’ll set up a wireless bridge for the laptop and go WiFi connect on the quad.  It sure seems like either the usb cable or hdmi are causing issues.  Again I’m not a tech guy, so it seems odd those components would cause the lag.

Try connecting to the Quad via Wifi.  That's the way my computer connects (the computer is hard-wired to the internet) and I've never had a problem.

To do that ill have to get a bridge.  I’ve been keeping everything unplugged (tV and Quad)until the laptop fires up, and haven’t had an issue yet, but it was only for a few days and I’ve been off of the system for a week. We’ll see if it continues

  • 4 weeks later...

With the issues that you’ve had, do you think you would “DIY” next time around versus buying the out-of-the-box package? I’m looking to put a GCQ in the house we’re building, and am trying to decide if there’s enough benefit to sourcing all the components myself and assembling versus just buying the package?

This was a sim in the box, and I appreciate the question as I figured out the cable to the TV was most likely causing the issue.  I leave it unplugged from the cpu until everything is up and running and haven’t had an issue sense.  The quad is definitely the way to go of your looking to spend this much and have the portability of the unit
