Best public practice facilities in Carolinas?

Looking to get away for a weekend and play and practice.

Where are you located and how far are you willing to drive? Obviously, Pinehurst is going to be hard to beat but there are also lots of options in Myrtle Beach that are open to the public and Duke is my preferred in the Triangle area. If it matters, seems that most places in NC are still hitting off mats, but SC ranges are almost all on grass.

Yes it does matter about mats a little bit thank you.  It will be this weekend

Another vote for Pinehurst.   +/- 20,000 SF Practice Green/putting course, 2 or 3 other short game greens, World Class Range, and The Cradle Short Course.  If you want to mix it up you can head 10 minutes down the road to Pine Needles/Mid Pines that have really good practice areas in their own rate.

Thanks. Are the driving ranges and practice areas open to those not playing that day?

Actually agree with hangontight and should have mentioned this earlier. Pine Needles is by far my favorite place to practice. Very low key, range is HUGE and almost always off grass. If it's raining they have a 50 yard long or so covered hitting bay which fits the atmosphere and kinda looks like a horse stall. Balls are ProV1's and there is even a 4 hole short course at the end of the range which is no charge to play and has a lot of the same characteristics as the main course (from my experience, either no one knows about this other than members, or they don't want to walk down there, because I've never seen anyone else on it.) I've never been charged to hit balls there either, even if not playing that day. If I'm playing at either Mid Pines or Southern Pines, I always warm up there first.
