Private Clubs in Vegas

Recommended Posts

Howdy yall!

So as it turns out - me and ms. aenemated are packing it up here in LA and moving back to Vegas. Well, *I* am moving back ... she's moving there for the first time. (She's an OG Valley Girl)

Was wondering if anyone had any experience with the clubs there and which the best ones might be. I wasn't playing too much golf during my first rodeo in the desert but I did get some rounds in here and there back in the day - Angel Park, Bali Hai, Rio Secco to name a few.

House we're buying is up around Aliante area. Pretty stoked to be close to Paiute (which I played on my birthday last October and fell in love with) but I'd be really interested to get into a private spot. Assuming they're ok with a tattooed Southern Gentleman.

I'm not a local, but I think you're kinda on the wrong side of town for close proximity to the private clubs in Vegas. Closest might be TPC Summerlin, 20-25 minutes? I think all the others are going to be 30+ minutes away. Canyon Gate might be 25-30 minutes from Aliante, but it's a ClubCorp club, so personally I'd skip it.

I was local for a few years. As mentioned, Aliante is kind of a deadzone for golf....aside from Aliante Golf Club, which isn't bad but isn't fantastic either.  Good news is weekend mornings traffic is very light on that side of town and you can fly around pretty quick.  You'll be about 20 minutes from the good courses on west side of town, and about 20 from Paiute.

IMO your best options are to 1) Play aliante during the week and Paiute on weekends, or 2) Put up the scratch for one of the TPCs

As someone who's only played one Club Corp-owned club (Rolling Green in IL), I'm curious about the comment to skip it RE joining. Can you elaborate on why or what the knock is on their clubs?

I can't speak to Canyon Gate specifically, but I've experienced other Club Corp clubs where they had way too many members for an 18 hole golf course, to the point that prime tee times were hard to get, and it just seemed like they wanted to wring every dollar out of the membership rather than improve the experience. I'm sure there are clubs in their network where the membership isn't bursting at the seams, but you should investigate the specific situation before joining. Most member-owned clubs are careful about capping their membership to avoid overcrowding, slow rounds, etc.

@aenemated - did you ever settle on a club yet?  Me and my family are relocating here in the next month or two and will be looking to join a club as well.

Oh wow, I somehow missed these comments.

I wound up joining TPC Summerlin. From right by Aliante Pkwy and the 215, takes me 15-20mins to get there most of the time. I wouldn't have minded closer but it's not that bad considering it used to take me that long if not longer to get to the crappy muni closest to me in LA.

Experience so far has been pretty good. Front's ok (3, 5, 6 and 7 are pretty fun) and I really enjoy the whole back. Facility is pretty rad though the practice green renovation that was supposed to re-open 7/1 has been pushed to like 7/15 due to a super hot June (even for Vegas). Pitching/bunker area is solid and the driving range is good. After all the years in LA and mats, it's just nice to hit off grass again.

Mornings are pretty packed generally but I'm fine to go out afternoons. I don't mind the heat - I'm an old desert rat anyway.

The perk of being able to play any TPC for just cart fees ain't bad - gonna try to finally get over to Scottsdale sooner than later. Food in the clubhouse is REALLY good.

Red Rock was on the table and it's not that much farther but decided against it despite the initiation fee being a lot less for no reason I can really articulate.

Pretty stoked on it after a couple months.

@Sons_of_Pitches If you're in town and want to check it out, happy to bring you along as a guest for 9 or 18!

As a side note re: Canyon Gate. I have played it several times (belong to a CC owned course). Course is decent for what it is. By no means is it a desert course. You could feel like you are anywhere else in the country. Over the years I thought it started going downhill, greens were absolutely terrible at the end of my playing there (like 4 years ago). Hope they dropped $ into it.

For CC owned coursed not all are packed with players. It could be just course specific. My course in FL isn't overcrowded at all.
