5 Wood vs. Hybrid vs. Driving/Utility Iron

I have the best of all worlds! I have a 4 hybrid that replaces my 4 iron, 3 iron for use off the tee, and 5 wood that I use off the tee and off the ground. Don’t carry a 3 wood as the 5 wood is long enough so I’m able to use it a lot more often on the course… The 5 wood rolls out to 250 so if I’m further out than that, odds are i’m not hitting the green lol

I have a 5 wood, and a hybrid in the same loft as a 4 iron. Both are great, and are used for specific situations. Both are Titleist, and both have the stiff (hybrid), and extra stiff 95 wood), shafts.

No hybrids in my bag. Replaced 22* 4H with 9 wood. Same distance, better ball flight, and tighter dispersion.

I currently have an old Adams BTY 14.5, an original Idea Pro Tour Head 16 and then a 20 Idea Pro Black Hybrid (9031).  I just turned 40 this year and I plan on getting fit for a new driver, 4 wood and 7 wood.  Longest Iron will be an MP-18 Fly Hi 4 Iron at 23 degrees.  Going to have the irons reshafted after a fitting as well...  Lost 3-5 MPH on my Clubhead Speed even in the last 3 years...

ditched my 3 wood and 3 iron, swapped in a 5 wood (17*) best decision I made to date for both accuracy and distance.

I have several 5 woods of varying years and technologies but at 69 yrs old I find myself relying on my old school Adams A3OS Boxer hybrids more and more. For me anyway, that 2007 ish technology is right up there with today's. Those hybrids are so easy to hit and work both ways it would be crazy not to have them in the bag. I play 2,3,4,5 hybrids and it will be a cold day in hell before I take them out of the bag. Just my way of doing it but it might be worth a try for you as well. You can find them pretty reasonably priced on the Bay. Good luck with your search.
