I think one of the execs at Cognizant is a member and influenced the membership....it's one thing to get an event near your HQ and another task to find a nice track to host the venue.

Not many private members...especially clubs only open from April to Oct...are willing to give up the course for 2 weeks.

Exactly. That is an issue for next year but it seems other benefits outweigh missing 2 prime weeks.

 

Having a pro tournament enables the course to do major/wish list upgrades w/o cost to members.

I think the LPGA missed a trick here - they should have had coverage of the wedding that Brittany was attending in Lake Nona and cut across to that instead of covering the interminable 2 minutes that Brooke, Lexi etc take in lining up all their putts.

99% played the week before at Shop Rite and 90% played the previous events since Solheim Cup.

Agree....I've seen my fair share of a LPGA RO in a cart warning and then timing players.

 

Here are just a few penalties that I recall....there are others too:

2007...I believe it was in Hawaii....Angela Park was contending on Sun and given a slow play penalty...she was livid.

2012...semi's in the Sybase Match Play....Aza got the pair put on the clock...yet Pressel got a slow play penalty and loss of hole....it was Aza's only LPGA win.

2021....Yealimi's $10000 fine for slow play...I believe this fine was a cumulative fine.

I believe the venues hosting a PGA tour events obtain a nice 'rental' payout....but I always thought that the LPGA doesn't have deep pockets so the host venues never obtained a 'rental' payout from the LPGA and/or sponsor???

Sorry players loved the course even w/ the planes some definitely were low enough to hit. None of really seemed bothered by it.

Apparently per members no one has ever done it.

 

Plans are for 2nd wk of May 2022 unless 3rd week gets switched. Yes that is the other week before Shop Rite in Seaview.

 

Other change is due to ANA probably being moved to Spring in April/ May per LPGA.

I LUV watching planes at a course.

 

Columbia Edgewater GC is a great venue in Portland...it is SO CLOSE to PDX....addition to the commercial planes...we'd often see fighter jets too.

 

CEGC and when Safeway used to sponsor this LPGA event...it was one the best coordinated tournaments....men or women...that I have attended.

 

In 1978...as teen I went on a golf vacation with my father....I can't remember the name of the course...but we played a public course right by Miami Int'l.

 

Mayfair Lakes is near YVR here and Royal Woodbine GC is right by Pearson Int'l in Toronto....lots of fun watching the planes.

$20 is a cheap price to access Pine Valley...I assume the $20 goes to charity?

PGA is true. Most are $2mil to cover fixing all the damage +more for rental.

Rate is higher for a major.

 

LPGA definitely doesn't have same pocket depth.

 

Many course tho' use USGA top am, LPGA and Sr. as proof of concept they can host a bigger level tournament.

In town kids athletic leagues.

 

Parking was always on their fields until the amusement park went ch11.

Founders Cup is now canceled for May 2022. Maybe another time can be arranged. Unfortunately the tie in wk after ShopRite at Seaview in Absecon, NJ won't happen.

I think the year was 2010...maybe 2011....I attended the Vancouver Golf Show...they had a Chambers Bay booth.

The guy working the booth told me there was already a FT USGA staff on site....with more to come the following year.

It's crazy how many staff from the USGA show up in the year/months leading up to a USO.

 

I attended the Tues practice rd at the 2015 USO.....with baked out conditions and green issues.

 

I have never seen Tiger play.....I got to the venue 1st thing in the morning.....630am....I watched the pros practicing on the driving and chirped a lot with some fans.

Then I realized that Tiger practices early....so I ran onto the course. He was 300 yards away up on the cliff on the 8th hole...no fan access.

 

So I went to the 10th tee to wait for him....then rumbles started to happen that he was going to quit after 9 holes and rest cause Chambers is a bit of a hike.

Yup he quit, along with Spieth.

WTF.

 

The USGA was so arrogant on roping...it was difficult to get near the action on many holes.

The worst venue for spectators.

The USGA was conservative on roping because in 2010 at the USGA Am....some fans fell and hurt themselves on some severe slopes.

I believe they went on to sue CB and the municipality. 

 

CB sits on a HUGE piece of property.
