Hzrdus shafts for the sluggish.

Recommended Posts

I'm getting very good results with a Smoke Green 6.0 70g (not small batch) shaft at the moment.  I average about 98-100mph and can get it up to about 105 if I step into it, but that is rare. Happier swinging around the 98 mark.  I've been struggling with my driver last season after some lessons and swing changes to try to get less out-in on my plane, and my instructor fit me into a Tensei AV Blue 65 R shaft (little heavier but softer) and it maintained my swing speed and accommodated my prosthetic left elbow. But it was really inconsistent, and because of my injury, I can't grind on the range like I used to. Tried the Green on a whim since I have a stiffer shaft on my hybrid and was getting good results with that, and it works much better. More center strikes and manage to keep my swing speed up. So - lets say I was pleasantly surprised. Haven't tried it outdoors yet, but I have faith. It also motivates me to hit the gym to actually get stronger to justify playing with the 'Green' shaft...LOL.

Played my first round of the year with the HZRDUS Blue RDX with the TEE C721 head and this thing made everything go straight.  I kid you not, I only missed one fairway, and that was a closed-face ground ball to 3rd base.  EVERYTHING else found the fairway.  I've never driven the ball this straight to start a season!

Generally speaking, which of these 2 shafts plays stiffer/more stout:

HZRDUS smoke red RDX vs Ventus red?

I would love to hear this answer as well.  I have a smoke red rdx now and the gentleman I take my lessons with mentioned I should try the ventus red too.

Shaft profiles look very similar.  I'm in a smoke red RDX 6.0 now.

I have the Smoke RDX Red 60 6.5 and Ventus Red 6X for driver and the Smoke RDX Red 70 6.5 and Ventus Red 7X for my 5w.

In my opinion, the Ventus Red is more stiff/stout than Smoke RDX Red. The Ventus is also about 5g heavier.

I prefer/ play the Smoke RDX Red 6.5 in my driver but prefer/play the Ventus Red 7X in my 5w.

I honestly don’t trust launch monitors indoors. I use the hzrdus black 6.0 and hit my drives high. Launch monitor always says I have a -1 angle of approach and launch angle of like 7 degrees. I will never trust a mid or high launch driver shaft because it just makes it difficult for me to find fairways. Low spin should hopefully mean low side spin also if that makes sense. I am trying the hzrdus red in my 3 wood for extra loft and carry to attack par 5s. Maybe I’ll try the red in my hybrid but again the black is so good in the hybrid too I’ll probably sacrifice accuracy with the hzrdus red in my hybrid. Hzrdus Black just gives me so much extra feel for where the face is so I can swing hard.

I switched from the HZRDUS smoke blue to the red at the end of the season and picked up some noticeable distance.  By profiles, the red should be better for my quick transition than the blue was.

Those results are based on VERY rough generalizations of what types of players tend to do ok with the shaft.

Though I agree with the tenor of your post, I see TT's FAST Tempo claim for HZRDUS Gen 4 Black, 6.0, Green and Red as rather accurate for those of us with fast tempos and transition.

Whether all the HZRDUS line can be adapted to a smooth tempo, depends on the person's strength, and ability to adjust their swing.  The variable IMO is any shaft's handle and tip configuration. 🙂

HZRDUS Red Gen4 CB was an unexpected gem.  I have a moderate tempo and a late load/release.  I could go back to Smoke Black if needed.  And I love hitting my buddy's Smoke Green (HULK).

But the best #s I've ever seen are with a Red Gen4 CB 50 6.0, paired with a TSR2 10* head.   It felt great warming up with "fairway finder" swings.  And held up when I stepped on it a bit.

I'm every happy with my current gamer (see sig).  But if a Red Gen4 CB drops on the 'bay or BST at a steal, I'll probably take a look...

Just turned 50, wanted a step down from stiff driver shaft, but many regulars are too soft for my moderate tempo 94mph swing.  Tried a HZRDUS Smoke Black 60 5.5 and never looked back!

This is what iv just been fitted Into this week after my first ever driver fitting , wasn't exactly expecting a ' black' shaft (low trajectory) but it's a Reg. At 5.5 60g  don not actually have it yet but will soon so no play on course yet  still about wary of it being a new shaft ect but  the s.speed was about 94 ,95 also

Do you normally hit a high ball? I’ve never hit the black, but my swing produces a lower than desired trajectory, so I lift up to 12* and play the red.

Had great luck with the Hzrdous Smoke Black 60, 5.5 in an old Ping Anser and a G400 max. A real fairway finder. I ordered a standard Paradym 9* with the new Hzrdous Black 60, 5.5, 4th gen. from Callaway Preowned. I hit it sideways. Got a Hzrdous Silver 60, 5.5 from Callaway P.O. and it's a match made in heaven. Back in the short grass and maybe even a few yards past last years divots.

I remember he said the height was 96 feet  with rdx black 5.5   he said at the start I'm definitely a stiff shaft but he said the 5.5 was best and that's a regular

Just remember that not all regulars are the same, as are stiffs.  A lower launching, low spin regular may suite you better than a higher launching, lighter stiff.  For reference, my swing speed is 92-94 with a quick transition.

I have always heard that HZRDUS plays a half flex more that the stated "regular, stiff, etc."

The Gen 4 H.Black is designed to stand up to aggressive swings, but it isn't prohibitive to smoother swings. Earlier renditions were harsher, but they've married the smoothness of a Riptide into the stoutness of the Hzrdus Black. It's quite nice. Very Even-Flow like whilst being very consistent like a Hzrdus Black should be.

I think the latest rendition appeals to a wider audience, and I think that was kind of the point. It'll stand up to abuse, but it won't laugh at the smoother swinger's efforts. (Paraphrasing from a review I read a while ago, but it is very much true).
