Retirement in Scottsdale/Phoneix/Surrounding Areas - Club Membership Options

Good Afternoon,

 

Any suggestions for private clubs in the area above that are worth mentioning.  Ideally, I think I would like to be closer to Scottsdale if its an option and at this point I dont think I would want an initiation fee higher than $100,000.  The lower the better but since these are gonna be my glory years I want to be at a club that has great conditions and has a great overall vibe.  I would like it to be a place that accepts others and the social aspect to me is very important.

 

I know that dues can easily run $25,000 annually or more at some of the top clubs so I am curious if you think it would be better just to hop around at the best public tracks in the area instead of going the private route?  My only concern with public tracks is slow play which is not ideal.

 

Any thoughts on great private options or public options would be appreciated.

Are you looking to live in the club where you have the drive your golf cart around vibe with more of a social aspect of a neighborhood?  If that is what you are looking for maybe take a look at Anthem Country Club on the north side of town.  It's 36 holes and fun courses, most members live in the gated community so you get a lot of social aspect - not age restricted so does not feel like a retirement community.  The last 2 years has been good to the club in terms of some new membership base and conditions.   

 

If you are looking to not live inside the club there are countless options out there under $100K.  Public course are an issue in my mind down here with season being long and expensive, not only is it slow but you end up way overpaying for some even average at best courses.    

 

The word of caution is most courses in the area have gotten large initiation increased in the last 6 months or so due to demand, or a long wait list.  I would make sure when you see number they are current numbers.

For a pure golf club, Desert Forest is the play although I'm sure the waitlist is miles long.

 

If you're looking for a walkable, more traditional layout at a full service country club, then Pinnacle Peak CC is worth a look.

+1 on Desert Forest.  If I lived closer 100% chance I would work to join there, but Im an all golf kind of member.  IMO private is always better than public, but especially so in the current economy of packed tee sheets.  (first friday foursome currently available at wekopa is like March)

I've heard Desert Forest is supreme, also I heard Tucson Country Club is super nice. I'm more into the walkable courses so I prefer something like that. I know my club has a year and a half wait list currently so I would say try to figure out sooner than later where you want to be because you will probably have to wait it out regardless

Probably. Also looks like you have to be sponsored by a current member.
