Driver Fitting Questions -- with Trackman Numbers!!!

I had the opportunity for the first time last week to practice in a trackman bay.  To see exactly what my numbers are, and to have hard information about speed, trajectory, and dispersion was AMAZING.  That being said, I'm excited to put my first WRX post up because of course, with more information comes more questions.  

 

My current gamer: Z785 10.5 head with a HZRDUS HC Black 75g 6.0

 

 

Old gamer: M4 9.5 head with Aldila Rogue Silver 110MSI 70S

 

 

Same M4 head with Aldila Rogue Black 95MSI 60S

Immediate questions that come to mind:

1.  Face tends to be closed at impact with my gamer, and I'm looking to reduce spin.  Would setting my hosel to "-1deg loft, 2deg open" be a win-win in terms of doing both of those things? 

 

2.  Loved the feel of the Rogue Black.  I definitely felt faster with the lighter 60g weight, and the numbers certainly show as much.  Spin needs to come down.  What's a comparable shaft that would help me accomplish this if I were to, say, go and pull the trigger on a Stealth?  

 

3.  What other questions could I be asking?

I am by no means as knowledgeable as others here, but here's my two cents.

• The Rogue 95 and HZRDUS produce largely the same numbers except for Face Angle and Face to Path.
• Getting your spin numbers down should help. Adjusting loft down is a good place to start, but take it slowly as it also opens the club face so you could start losing balls to the right.
• The fitter I worked with told me that the M4, M6, Sim Max, and Sim2 Max would spin more than the M3, M5, Sim, Sim2 respectively. I moved from Sim2 Max to Sim2 and found 300-500 rpm of spin improvement.
• Before popping for a Stealth, you might try hitting/finding an M5 or Sim/Sim2 head at 9.0/9.5 or a Z785 or ZX7/ZX5 at 9.0/9.5 (not sure what the standard lofts are). Given some are older models, you should be able to find them for a lot less than a Stealth.

Your questions -

 

1. The effect to changing hosel settings tends to vary with the individual. That’s partly because when you address the ball, and say you’ve set the club for 2 degrees closed, you may the open the face to achieve what is visually the correct alignment. Try them yourself and see.

 

2. Your numbers and dispersion look more “comfortable” with the lighter shaft. Perhaps stay in the 60g range. You can balance launch angle and spin with the combination of club head characteristics and shaft flex distribution. The best combination of those is very difficult to guess at with any accuracy. That’s why we have launch monitors and club fitting.

 

3. What is my smash factor. It’s a measure of efficiency and requires your ball speed, which you don’t show. If I had to guess, yours appears to be rather low. At your swing speed, you are leaving a fair number of yards on the table at this point.

 

My hazy crystal ball says - A low spin head such as the Epic Max LS with an RDX Blue 60 S.

I would look at the Rogue silver, but lighter in weight.

I would think with SS at 100 you would get more out of your drives...not sure what the issue might be, but thinking 100 should be getting you 240 ish carry.

I thought the same. Ian from TXG uses 2.7 x driver speed for a quick distance check.
