Taylormade P790 vs Mizuno 225

Hi all I’m currently playing TM P790 but debating on switching to MIZUNO 225 for a better feel. Has anyone demoed or played both and provide some insight? Thanks

If it's feel your after, IMO. the 225's have it beat in spades.

I have both, different shafts however.  The 225's beat the P790's hands down in the feel department.  The lose nothing in the distance department either.

Can’t wait to see if they beat out my PXG Gen3 P’s. Hope to compare soon. Played OG 790’s and can only imagine that the 225’s feel way better and perform as good.

IMHO yes.  I don't notice a difference between he two when you miss the center of the club face.  There's not a huge drop off in distance when you just miss it with the 225's.

The 225s appear to have much thicker soles than the ‘21 790s.  True?

Don't know what generation of P790's you play, but last January I tried:

- P790 2021 model

- P770

- Pro 223

- Pro 225

- T100s

- T200

 

The 225's have a softer feel than the P790's, that's for sure. But the 225's still feel and sound a bit clicky. Also, to me the 225's sole felt super chunky and bouncy through the turf, no clean in and out contact. That might come down to my swing and delivery, but I think it's worth mentioning.

 

P770's and Pro 223's are on a totally different level of feel btw. If you can afford to lose some forgiveness and distance for a softer feeling club, these are the way to go.

funny u posted that list because except for the srixon zx7/zx5 that is my exact iron search list. Eliminated the t100 and pro 223 off the list immediately, too much club for my game.

Came from a set of Z565's and wanted to try a different brand this time, so the Srixon's were eliminated right off the bat.

 

I couldn't get the T100s up in the air, so those were eliminated pretty quickly. The T200, pro 225 and P790 were to big and clicky for my taste, so those were out of the equation as well. It was a close call between the pro 223's and the P770's. Feel of the 223's was softer, but waiting time was 2-3 months and the P770's were ready in 4 working days. I'm just not going to sit in front of the window waiting for the UPS guy for 2 months.

i had the 765/565 combo set and liked it. Still interested in the zx7/zx5, t100 were eliminated quickly and dont like the look of the t200. u hit the 225?

I have both the 2021 P790s and 225s as well. I feel like the 790s are a bit more forgiving, but that's just my opinion. I have the PX 6.0's in the 790s and the PX LZ 6.0 in the 225s. No doubt that on good contact shots that the 225s feel better though.

how do u compare those shafts, both are on my short list

All about how I’m swinging it. Tempo Is so much more important with the LZ. It’s early days with the LZ for me but I think I personally like the PX a little bit more as I’m slightly more aggressive with my tempo.
