Bluffton, SC Course end of August

HI All,

A few friends and I are doing a trip to Bluffton with 4 rounds at the end of this month.  We currently have 3 of 4 rounds booked and was looking for any feedback on courses we have booked and recommendation for our final round.  Right now we are looking at Crescent Pointe for the final round.  Just saw a Reddit post with a pretty beat up green on Old South...is that course worth it or should we find something else?  Also, any food or drink spots we really need to hit up?  We were looking at Burnt Church & Lot 9 Brewery for drinks and have a ton on the list for food that we'll have to narrow down.

Thurs - Arrival day, late afternoon round at Old South Golf Links

Fri - Morning - Hilton Head National

Sat - Morning - Harbor Town Golf Links

Sun - ??? (Crescent Pointe)

Thanks for any feedback!

I can only speak to Old South. Just played there with my pops a couple weeks back and I found it to be a little jekyll and hyde. I found the first few holes on the front and most of the back to be really fun, but there are a couple of, to be kind, quirky holes dotted throughout the course. Green conditions were also a little hit and miss, but I found the majority to be playable. All in all, I don't think it's a bad course to kick a trip off with, lots of fun to be had there and the staff was incredibly kind. It was a nice day all around.

Sounds like you have food covered, but I'd kick myself if I didn't recommend Java Burrito on the island, which is a great post-round lunch option.

Have to second the Java Burrito rec!

I really like HHN.  People are great and the course is usually in great shape in August.

I played Crescent Point about a decade ago and thought it was passable.  Kind of like a low end resort course that you could find pretty much anywhere.  But my memory is fading on it, and it could've improved dramatically in that time.  You could try some on-island courses instead like the ones in HH Plantation or Golden Bear.  They are in a similar price range to CP, I believe.

Thanks for the feedback guys!  Java Burrito is on the list to grab lunch at.  I was looking at Golden Bear, but they are aerating Wed and Thurs of the week we'll be there.  I did end up moving Old South to Sun and added Oyster Reef Thurs afternoon since Crescent Point had some pretty bad recent reviews.  And that swap didn't impact budget at all.

Good move. Oyster Reef is in much better shape than Crescent Pointe these days.

Oyster is a go to for me as well as national.  I have probably played each 4-5 times in the last year when I visit.

It's a shame on Crescent because it's a pretty layout that I played a lot growing up.  I'll still pull up the online reviews hoping someone has turned it around but somehow the reviews get worse every time you pull it up.

Such a shame about Crescent Pointe. It's an Arnold Palmer design that has just gone to pot. Eagles Pointe, just down the road from Crescent, is a Davis Love design that has also seen better days. The Hilton Head - Bluffton area markets itself to tourists as a golf destination, but if a tourist went to either of these two courses, they would understandably question the quality of the Hilton Head golfing experience.

Sat - Morning - Harbor Town Golf Links

Sun - ??? (Crescent Pointe)

I saw the above and was like, no... oh no. Playing CP after HT? There are let downs, and then there are LET DOWNS. Glad to see that was remedied.

If I had it my way, I'd end at HTGL and use that as the crowning end of a great golf weekend with a pic on the 18th to frame.

So... how was it? (Since it's september now) 😉
