Never knew LIV had tried and failed to secure a Friday broadcast partner

LIV Golf fails to land Friday TV partner in time for 2024 season

At the start of the LIV offseason in October, the league’s media team set a relatively straightforward goal: to add a second network partner in the United States. LIV still had another year on its agreement with the CW, yes, but that partnership only included the league’s Saturday and Sunday broadcasts.

But now, two weeks into the ’24 season, it appears a deal still hasn’t materialized.

In December, network sources told GOLF‘s Dylan Dethier that LIV’s total revenue from the 2023 season on the CW likely didn’t exceed $3 million —

3 million for a entire season that is worse than I thought. The CW has to be crazy. I posted earlier that the CW could get 4x's the ad revenue with re-runs, its more like 15x's

What's hard to understand for me is how you're an unrelenting defender of the RB's and their rollback for the "purity" of the game and all that jazz while also an unabashed lover of LIV because at it's core it's also "pure golf" in your eyes and should be enjoyed. That you're able to toe both those lines without finding any difficulty implies that you indeed see the world in a very different way than most.

It's unlikely you'll come across many who espouse nostalgia and a love for the classic parts of the game while also wholeheartedly supporting the main entity most responsible for putting professional golf's continuation in jeopardy. To me, it makes no sense.

I have said this before, I can make a counter-argument or defend a position without actually believing that position, for the sake of discussion.

I think you also don't really understand why I hold the positions I do.  Using the word "purity" in the way you assess my belief is evidence of the lack of understanding.

I am also not a "lover of LIV".  I watch it when it suits my schedule.  It is professional golfers hitting golf shots on different courses.  That is all it is for me.

You last little bit there is hyperbole to me.

I sincerely believe this as well.🤣 They're trying hard to convince the public that we now love simpleton Bryson Dchambeau and that we miss him dearly.

Getting Saudi money but making it seem like it's our idea is definitely the plan. $3B investment to be exact.... IMO

Bring everybody back together for the good of the game.

Simpleton?

Take a break

I know it sounds like something hatched in a WWF script, but I wouldn't doubt it.

It’s obvious that there’s a strategy behind ‘The New and Improved Bryson 2.0’.  And why not?  He’s an entertainer.  All sorts of entertainers have PR firms/reps that help them create an image.  I don’t fault him for that.  It’s manufactured, but no more so than a thousand other entertainers.  And while I don’t see a nefarious plan behind the scenes concocted by the Tour and LIV, I’m sure they see it as a positive for any deal and will try to leverage it to the best they can, if a deal is struck.

As much as I don’t love phoniness of celebrities, would you rather have pro golfers out there putting out content and connecting with fans or going straight home from the course to crack open an O’Douls and make a final decision as to whether they should paint the bedroom walls beige or wheat?  Because there are far too many of the latter in pro golf.

How do you explain it to the players that didnt take the money? LIV players coming back without penalty would not sit well with most players. IMO I dont think it would make a much of a  difference if they do come back. Bryson is playing for LIV and no one is watching. LIV has 250K viewers more or less what value is that to the PGA tour? not much, the PGA Tour is not going to be must watch TV with them.

Never been a conspiracy theorist, but what's going on between LIV and PGA Tour just smells kinda rotten.  I was naive enough to think that the Tour was the last bastion of corporate integrity.  Then, after weaponizing the grief of 9/11 survivors and their families, Monahan signs a deal with LIV.  To me, he now has no more credibility than Vince McMahon. And, of course, I would be surprised to find an ounce of decency or morality among the LIV powers that be.

Maybe it's just a coincidence that Bryson is now being touted as the game's new golden boy, even by media types who were formerly anti-LIV hardliners.  We'll never know.  Both organizations are run with the same amount of transparency as the KGB.  To me, he will always come off as a Phil level phony, but that is beside the point, I suppose.

BTW, totally agree that most pro golfers could use a semester in charm school.

They gambled with live sports because that can bring an audience, but LIV can’t. I’m sure Norman told them they’d get much better ratings. CW will be out as soon as their contract is up because LIV is stuck in a ratings holding pattern no matter who they sign.

Because the PGA Tour is probably losing money and the only thing the PGA Tour players hate more than LIV is a decrease in prize money which will have to occur in the near future. The investors will demand it.

LIV and CW are splitting revenue. So is that total revenue or are they splitting it? Either way it sssuuuccckkksss.

LIV revenue at 300,000 viewers per round: $3 million

PGA Tour revenue at 2 million viewers per round: $700 million

Just for full Transparency:

The PGAT currently also has a $2B International Media Rights Deal.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
