I have not swung a club in a month, and have given up on golf.

I almost quit the game in 2014 when I was shanking and couldn't break 90.  Just when I was going to sell my clubs on Craigslist I came across Be Better Golf channel on Youtube and Monte Scheinblum and his teachings totally changed the way I saw the golf swing.  I saw the swing as a natural and athletic motion instead of being worried about positions.  It took a few years but my scores gradually came down but really went into overdrive when the pandemic came and was stuck chipping balls in my basement and discovered how to use the bounce on a wedge correctly which really improved my short game.  Because of that, I pretty much score in the 70s and low 80s now and enjoy the game again!

Don't give up OP.  Just think of the swing in a different way like I did.

This might be heresy to some folks, but I honestly believe that the old model of paying a professional an exorbitant sum for a package of 1 to 3 in-person lessons is outdated and dead. I've done both and can say without a doubt that I've had MUCH better success with YouTube, a camera, and one single video lesson with Monte than the five or so in-person lessons I had and immediately forgot everything I was told. I must have watched the video I got back from Monte 100 times.

I find no joy in not being able to hit past 150 yards.   (Full driver 220, PW 100)

I'm a +25 who shoots 95-105 on an easy course.

I am in very good shape, and have been active my entire adult life.

I am sick of always being handicapped at 150 - 200 yards out.

I am sick of always saying short game is where the score happens.

I am sick of being a good putter, good chipper, reliable 100 yard PW, and a decent 220y driver.

It feels like complete hackers who barely even understand golf can out bomb me on their first season on the course.

I feel zero motivation to swing a club and have given up for this season.

I have not swung a club in a month, and have given up on golf.

I think what killed me was taking 2 lessons and getting very different feedback.

Both lessons are very high end both in cost and pedigree (PGA event experience)

The 6/29 lesson basically told me to swing as hard as I can with a fast take away.

This went against everything I ever believed about a clean pure golf swing (Freddy)

I felt like I was now reduced to a jerky Hollywood swing that looks terrible and tight and muscled.

The 7/5 lesson felt more valid, and he said my arms need to lag my hips more.

Right now they are one unit, with no separation.

However, I felt like when I exaggerated the hip starting the swing, results were hardly any different.

I have no idea which lesson to believe.

So, I did neither.    I just stopped.

This goes against everything I believe about sports development (skill is everything, equipment means 10%)

But, if I can't buy my way out of this with a 7W that goes 150-175, UP IN THE AIR,

then I am walking away from this game after a lifetime of being a advocate of the game.

I am disgusted with myself.

First world problems.

Thank you for listening.

bye bye

How did you do? Not score, but did you enjoy it?

I walked 18. Feet were hurting by the end. Always takes a round or two to acclimate.

Freakishly, I had the best driving day of my life. 15 tee shots, not one ball in trouble. Not one duck hook or slice. Not one topped ball, not one line drive. Either on fairway, or some fade or draw to land in the first cut.

Didn't lose a ball, etc. Bonkers to come off the couch and do that. Basic probability says I will never have this solid a driving day again in my life.

Glad to read this. I recently went thru a VERY BAD patch of golf and on Monday I shot a 79. Have no idea what I did different other than slow down and focus on the basics like grip, etc.

Anyway - glad to hear that it sounds like you enjoyed yourself.

Shot 48/52 today.  14 stroke improvement over last time, LOL.  Driver was hooking.  But had one perfect drive.  But putting was much better.  Made a couple of pro caliber flop shots around the green that were the highlight of the day.   I explicitly told myself to keep head down which made a huge difference in irons striking more cleanly.   I could tell I was doing it right, since I had no idea how high the ball lofted (on those shots)

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
