Just got an email from Golfsmith saying the True Temper Black Gold shafts will be available Dec. 28th. Has anyone tried these? Any feedbacks? Thanks.

I had the opportunity to test these at the True Temper test facility in Tunica, MS a month ago. These are really sweet!!!!!! The Black Gold's are incredibly consistent from shaft to shaft and in cpm's as well. They are manufactured to frequency and are incredibly tight on tolerances. They also have another feature that you will be able to buy them in R, S or X flexes, but be able to trim them to any frequency within that particular flex.

Ball flight: They have a solid ball flight that is higher than Dynamic Gold. Very nice for me, because I currently play the Tour Concepts. Increadible flight and feel!!!!!

I highly recommend trying them :dntknw:

How do they compare to the Tour Concepts?

TT Concepts are constant weight...... Blacks are descending weight.

These are TT version of rifles...also the taper tips you can't trim. Only hard/soft step them for various flexes.

I think they made them to lure players away from the rifles.

Personally, i'll stick with a rifle or accra steel.

definately aimed at the PX ... butt stiff/tip soft....... The only advantage that they are banging on about are the manufacturing tolerances, which are supposed to be superior to the Rifles.

Oh and coming in a brushed champagne colour (if that matters to you).

I'll give 'em a whirl..... they sound more like what I,m looking for as opposed to the TCs.

Hello all...a couple of questions regarding the Black Gold vs. PX:

Any one have much experience with the BG's yet? I am very interested in them and am trying to solidify the shafts I will use this year...have hit Px's b4 and loved them but think the BG's might be interesting.

Can you feel the difference with the descending weight?

Also what are the tolerance issues with the PX's? Are they that bad?

BTW - I love this site...for years I have been a closet Ho! I have found my home. Now I am more knowledgable and much happier...but probably a lot poorer in time. Oh well...it's all about how many tour issue clubs they can fit in your casket, right?

Thanks

I was lucky enough to get 6 of these while dumpster diving at the Buick Invitational. I played PX's for more than 1 full season and these BG shafts are much better. I played the pX's in cleveland TA-2's, I have had Tour concepts in MR23 CB's and now the black golds in my 05TP Tours.

These shafts feel so nice. As mentioned above they feel the same throughout the set (I have 5-PW done.) The shaft feels smooth, not too demanding, but has a much better feel to them than the PX's. The PX's felt a little boardy to me, these are very nice. Perfect trajectory, I struggled with hitting it too high, these hit a mid-level flat trajectory. I can't wait to get the 3 and 4 irons done.

Mark,

Thanks for the info...very helpful...what freq. did you use in the PX's? Do you plan to use the BG's in your wedges?

Looks like I am going to pick them up soon.

Dumpster diving at the Buick...find anything else?

Thanks again!

I had 6.5 PX's but they were actually around a 7.2 The X1's feel like the best shafts I have ever played, like they were taylor fit to my swing. I might have got lucky and whoever the cleveland player was who had them before me may have the same specs requirements. In any case, I think I will stick to S400's in the wedges. I got a lot of them from the guys.

sidenote, I didn't actually dumpster dive, I snuck up to the tour van area and saw the cleveland van had thrown out 2 bags of garbage on the ground and there were like 12 shafts laying on top of them. If I had come 20 minutes later the garbage buy would have chucked em. I asked the other vans if they had anything. The TM van told me to look around the corner, but they only had some stock R580 lookin shafts they pulled out of some pro-am am players clubs. I will definetly try harder and hang around longer next time.
