Advice needed for NW England trip

Planning a 2024 trip that will start in England and move on to Scotland.  I know Scotland fairly well but have not played in England.  The thought is to play Birkdale, Lytham, Hoylake and perhaps West Lancs all while catching a Premier League game.  My understanding is if we stay in Southport we can get to the course via train.  Can anyone suggest a hotel?  And is the train idea a good one?  Any other suggestions would be appreciated. I stayed at the Vincent in Southport a few years ago. It was a decent place. As for trains: it’s an easy 20 minutes to take the train to Hillside for R Birkdale but getting to Lytham will be a pain - like 2 hours via Wigan.

Hoylake must involve a change of train as well. Fortunately, the best course in the area is 10 minutes by train and a few minutes walk from the station to the 1st tee. FORMBY.

Are you planning on going to a Liverpool or Everton game? Or Man U?

That would be ideal.  Any game really just to check it on the bucket list

Well, obviously Liverpool or Everton would be closer since you would be in Southport. Anfield and Goodison Park are very close to each other and have train station near them. You could prob get an Uber as well. If you wanted to go to Old Trafford there is a station very close to it.

Thanks.  I will look into how to get tickets.  That would be great fun for sure.

I just went to Manchester United game October 30 of this year. We rented a car.  I played 18 at Royal Lytham and St. Annes. It was fantastic. Caddy was great. We drove to Southport and stayed at the Bold Hotel on the main street. It was great. Fun pub downstairs. I was going to play Wallasey but it didn't work out. Birkdale and Hillside were very close to hotel.

We used Sportsbreak.com to book our tickets to the game. It worked out because the package included a hotel with the tickets.

I keep reading great things about Silloth on Solway and I may try to book it on our way north to Scotland.  Anyone played it?

No but I know it’s reputation living in the North. Well worth a trip for those who like the toughest links. But it’s very exposed to westerly winds. 
 

Southerness, on the Scottish side of the Solway Firth is also a fine track c 1 hour away.

Silloth is very good, but well out of the way. That said, if you are going to play Silloth this is as good a time as any because it's out of the way. It's not a nice town so turn around and push into Scotland after you play.
