Cobra adapter - does delofting open face?

I’ve got plenty of experience with Ping, TM, Titleist and Cally adapters.  Zero with Cobra. So before I order a Cobra driver, I wanted to see if anyone can confirm that delofting will open the face.   Figured this is the case. I’m looking to buy a 10.5* and play it at 9.5 or 9 to get an open face. Thanks in advance.

Yes, every OEM adapter works that way. In fact opening the face is the only thing that happens. Delofting is what you do by squaring the (opened up) club.

 

One thing to note about Cobra is that changing loft/face angle will make the club play more upright. Just sayin' since their clubs tend to be pretty upright already even in the stated loft setting.

The only difference is that the Cobra had (or has) a sole design that makes it (or used to make it) a bit easier to square the club when it's grounded.   Can't remember what they called it or if they still do it.  It didn't help me (so I never could play cobra drivers) - but some people have reported that it helped them compensate for the change in face angle that happens when they adjust the club.

So i guess if you wanted an open face driver you should buy a high lofted driver and then lower the loft setting.  Would that make it more fade bias?

Yes if you don’t hold it in such a way as to re-square the face.  In which case the loft won’t be lowered.

 

Square the face, you get lower loft.

Leave it open, you get the original loft but open.

Lie angle changes for every company's adapters, not just Cobra.  If you're changing the face angle, you're also changing the lie angle. 

 

Each company may label it differently, but it doesn't change the fact that it's happening.  🙂

 

Even the flat vs upright settings are merely relabeling the adapter on which (upright vs flat) is the "standard" setting.

I'm fully aware of that. 🙂 Not every adapter starts in the flattest setting though, and also most manufacturers standard 'flat' settings are not as upright as Cobra, which is why I wanted to point it out.

Yep, it's the Smartpad, and I also have no idea if it's still used or not.  Either way, I still see the clubface opening or closing slightly with the loft changes.

It's the Smart Pad (or Smaaht Pad for us New Englanders).

I was really intending that to be more general, not a targeted post.  Some folks read things here and run with them in unusual directions  😉🤔
