Freshly refinished classic Scotty Cameron gun blue Newport by BOS

Just got this piece back from BOS, very happy with the results! Had a site dot added in addition to the refinishing. Turnaround time was about 3.5 weeks, with thanksgiving in the middle of it.

Did you weigh the head before and after and if you did, was there any weight loss?

it was recommended to remill the face due to the pitting, there was a loss of 5g of headweight

thanks! i'll be using a tungsten tip weight to get it back to stock.  still debating on 325g (pre-refinish weight) or 330g (the "stock" stated weight for 35" length)

I say game it at 325g. You run the risk of changing CG location by adding a tip weight.

definitely was a concern of mine.  i think there's an old WRX thread where a member made a CAD model and I believe they concluded up to 10g of tip weight moved the CG fairly marginally.  will have to dig around to see if I can find it.

It will be extremely minimal but knowing that the CG might already be towards the heel a bit would be enough to stop me from doing it. Those older Cameron's were a bit questionable with CG location to begin with. Just my 2cents. The putter turned out absolutely beautiful though!

Just got a BOS refinish back this week myself and have to agree, work was fantastic and turnaround time was much faster than expected.

BOS does amazing work at such a good price! Don't worry about the tip weight. How often do we all hit dead center on a putter anyway? If you think a couple mm would matter, I wouldn't worry at all about it.

Definitely have been on the fence on sending my putters but results look great!

 

Does it have a “blue” hue to it like it would when it was new?

You can go up to 10-11 grams of tip weight and still be ok.  I have 10g's of tungsten powder in a lot of my older 330g Cameron's.
BOS does the best black ox and oil can in the business and they do it at a fair price.  I never even consider sending my older Cameron's into the Custom Shop anymore - especially since they no longer offer the original black ox and oil can finishes anyway.  BOS did the original work for Scotty years ago and they still offer the original finishes today.

it's a dark finish, I'll try to grab some pix in the sun to see how much of that blue shows through.  I do believe BOS did a lot of the original finishes for SC.  There's also an aquamarine finish they offer, I'd email them and ask for additional pix, they're very responsive.

BOS did do the original finishes for the Cameron line.  I believe they also did the finishes for the Cameron Golf International venture before signing with Titleist.  The finishes BOS does is absolutely authentic for the early Cameron putters while the Cameron Studio finishes are not.  To me there is no question where I would send early Cameron putters if I wanted them to be in original condition.  BOS

They are still the absolute best at the gun blue or oil can finishes.  Beautiful putter.
