Got to Demo the new Titleist TSR1 driver

I was able to Demo the new, soon to be released Titleist TSR1 driver yesterday. This model is 40 grams lighter and comes with a newly designed Mitsubishi MMT SpeedMesh lightweight shaft. I believe its 40-45 grams in the regular flex. My driver swing speed  is around 94-97 mph putting me slightly above the speed range  this driver is marketed for. I am 65 years old and have a 9 handicap. I do prefer a lighter feel to my driver so the TSR1 was really to my liking. As compared to the the TSR2 with the same shaft, my swing speed and ball speed was 2-4 mph higher with the TSR1. I did get 5-10 yards more with the same accuracy. The spin rate was anywhere from 2,400-3,000 depending on my inconsistent swing. The feel was great and I must say, I had a lot of confidence. My present driver is the original Callaway Epic sub zero with a Hzrdus shaft 55 grams 5.5 flex. I did purchase a Stealth plus driver with the Ventus Black 6S shaft but sold it after a couple of months. 

The new TSR1 driver is not for everyone but I think putting golf egos aside, this driver could be a good fit for many golfers.

My TSI1 gets delivered today.  Naturally, the TSR1 gets announced after I ordered my TSI1, but I'm not sure it would make that much difference.  I already have a TSI1, but it's at my daughter's house in Rancho Mirage.  I decided to build a 2nd bag for home and leave the one at my daughter's house so I don't have to take my custom clubs back and forth.

 

I was fit for the TSI1 and it has been a great performer for me.  I'm 75 and I find it quite light and not sure anything lighter would increase my swing speed without affecting my dispersion.  I do like a little "feel" in the weight of the club and I've made the mistake of going too light and then I feel like I lose the control that I desire.

 

I guess the only way to know is to get fit and compare it to the TSI1, but that will probably be later in the season.

I've been playing "lighter construction" drivers for a few years now - Cleveland Launcher HB and Launcher XL.

 

The Launcher HB has the Miyazaki c kua 5s and the Launcher XL has the Cypher 50 6.0. Both are in the 50g range. I play both at 44" with generous lead tape on the heads. They both work pretty well. The light weight is nice. 

 

But, they do tend to be a bit loose. I may try a different shaft in the Launcher XL this season. Still lightweight, but a bit stouter.

Thanks for posting. I've been waiting for these to be released. Currently using a TSi1 and found it to be an improvement over the TS1. At 70 I need a little help and this line has been good. I didn't find the stock shaft to be a great fit and moved to similar weight aftermarket and have been really happy.

Cant wait to try it. I took the weight out of my G410, hit a few balls and gained 5mph ball speed. They were knuckle-balls and didn't go very high, but was surprised by the increase in ball speed.

I play a TSi1 driver.  I tried the TS1 driver and fairways.  Didn’t get on with the lighter fairways but loved the driver until my 15 year old daughter stole it!  Interested to see the differences in the new model but also intrigued by the new Stealth 2 HD.   If it works for Nelly…..
