Sometimes things just don't go the way you planned.  We pulled together for an E9 for some low intensity couples golf last evening.  One very beginner, the Mrs who cannot break 100, but she has now shot on the number 3 times in a row, and then two husbands who play often.

It was the evening when the course has recommended beginners come out to play so as to not slow down the course.  On the second tee box a twosome rolls up on us.  Now this is where it gets a little fuzzy for me.  I heard them tell us they were a twosome and they were going to play through.  Since I wasn't expecting anyone that early in the round (we let another twosome play through 4 holes later), I may have missed the request portion of the sentence, but the tone never elevated at the end as it normally does when asking a question.

Did I handle it well?  Not in the least.  But I was really dumbstruck by the audacity (real or imagined is the blurry portion).  I look at them and say, "You guys must be really good..."  Not a polite response, and then it went downhill from there.  In hindsight I am a little embarrassed, but if they did in fact say they were just going to play through then I don't feel too badly.  What a weird interaction.

I think the best etiquette is to "request"  to play through.

Exactly.  Just ask, I can't think of a time I have ever said No, but it was really surprising to have them feel like it is their right to just play through.

... What a weird encounter. I have never had any just proclaim they are playing through. I have also said no when the course is packed, nowhere to go and a single or twosome asks to play through. If we weren't playing twilite when the course is absolutely stacked up and we are waiting on every shot and we were not worried about finishing, I would wave anyone through because nothing worse than having some posterior head wearing Mo Rons that are drinking more than playing hit into you. Thankfully even in Phoenix during the peak season that kind of thing is very rare because every course is packed every day.

I teed off at 6:45

I wish I had that gene. Hard for me to get going golf-wise prior to 9am, and even that is an early start for me. When working, I’d usually start my day around 6am and I’m still usually up early, but need caffeine and a good stretching routine before teeing up. But I’d sure like to beat the summer heat once in awhile.

90* with 78% humidity here in South Carolina. Bill, Steve, Mike, and some old blonde guy make up this afternoon's foursome.

I love to play early so I have the rest of my day for chores or honey-do's.  I do exercises and stretching in the morning and then stretch again at the first tee box.  I take my coffee with me and refill my insulated cup with water when the coffee is gone.  It works for me, but I have been known to be a little weird or peculiar!

My bad. You are correct.  But I just noticed that Xander finished in 7th place so give me five extra points there for a total of 326 points.  I need a personal accountant.

I have adjusted your total.  You’re now at 326.

Yeah it’s a going to get a bit warm in the coming days, admittedly not a fan of these temps.

I play early as well.  The first 15-20 minutes after getting up I question why I do this, but then the body gets going and I’m done early so like you have the rest of the day.

... We are in similar boats, although my boat is sitting on a dry, rock river bed. There is no getting away from the summer heat here in Phoenix so I just embrace it and remind myself 110* is better than 10* in Chicago. I only play twilite and enjoy finishing my round as the sun is setting and it is cooling off.

We have snow levels dropping to about 3800', today's high is 52.  We got frozen off the golf course Saturday and I actually left an outdoor concert early Saturday night as the temps dropped and the wind continued to blow as the sun went down.  Geez was it cold.  I had on a down jacket, winter cap and gloves and I was still cold.

Hope it holds for another month - we head to GNP on 7/16. Like snowbirds that head to Florida and Arizona in the winter, we’re sunbirds in the summer.

Well, I feel pretty confident it'll be cooler up there than TX.  I hope you have a wonderful time on your trip.  Perhaps a selfie with a griz or a mountain goat would be appropriate for the Loungers.

That would be great to see one when you are out playing there.  My buddies say that place is the bees knees and their favorite Vegas course.  I have never played it, but I don't play a ton of golf in Vegas since we are there for such a short time.

And we're going to need a picture of a bee's knee.  Do bees ever scrape their knees moving from flower to flower?  Are there bee bandages?
