Failed Attempt to Install Armlock Grip

Anyone have any tips on how to easily install an armlock grip? I’ve been re-gripping clubs for 18 years and never had anything be as difficult as an armlock grip. Failed attempt was with a jumbomax 21”. I made it on until 3 inches were left then it wouldn’t budge. Had a Winn 17 and it went on no problem. Both times I used excessive amounts of mineral spirits.

Don't know if this is an option or not but I have put several on with Air. I use 75 psi and soap up the ( Joy/water mix ) putter shaft real good and they go on relatively easy.

Air install would be easier using 2-way tape and solvent as usual.

 

With Long grips like this the biggest mistake is not preparing the butt end properly.  You need to make sure the shaft end is smooth.  No sharp edges.  The best way is to use a foam sanding block and smoothing the edges.  Next you need to make sure you use 2 or 3 layers of tape on the butt end.  This way as you force the grip on, it has no chance of tearing thru the tape and binding on the exposed butt end.

 

As per usual you need to use tape the full length and make sure that the solvent is on the tape thoroughly and inside the grip itself.  Then push on quickly with no hesitation.

You don't need 2-way tape or solvent with air. That's the beauty of it because once it's on it stays put. And then if you want to take it off just blow air into the end of the grip and pull it off. Very easy and no damage to the grip. 

 

I use the medical sports tape, put on 1-layer of tape. Apply the soap/water mixture with a small paint brush and suds it up real good. Then slide the grip over the butt end. Put the air hose in the end of the grip and finish blowing the grip on. If it needs a little adjustment just blow a little burst of air in and twist as needed.

Put about 100lbs of air pressure through it and push hard while drenched in solvent

I just put on the same Jumbo Max 21" grip.  A little grip solvent and air and it slid straight on. No tape.  Holds just fine and I can blow it right back off.

 

Mineral spirits does not work as well as grip solvent. Either with or without tape.  Use grip solvent.
