Nope, it’s a model local rule they’re proposing that the Committee can put in place ant their discretion.  Intended for professional events and elite Amateur events.  It would be astonishing  if your club or any club put that in effect for regular play.

I understand that.  Here's the question.... The ball manufacturers are going to have to spend a lot of money to R&D and produce a ball that limits the top end distance.  Are they going to retool all the equipment and processes involved and do a limited run for the 100-200 PGA Tour and high level amateur events  each year?  Does this include College golf?  and then retool for "regular production"?

Or.....are they going to just produce a single restricted model to mass sell to everyone.  It's not the ball or the driver to an extent.  These guys are working out like elite athletes, increasing their clubhead speed and perfecting the swing to get these distances.  They still have to get the ball in the hole after that drive.  If anyone has noticed, they have been altering courses making it easier for these guys to bomb their drives by removing areas that are heavily foliaged, removing trees or cutting them back.  KEEP the hazards!  If they want to hit 320-350 yard drives make them hit pin point accuracy or severely penalize them with OB forcing drops, heavy foliage forcing them to chip out perpendicular to the fairway so now they lie 2 350 yards from the tee.

So and so forth.  But what do we know, we are only the peasants.

Most golfers want to play golf by the rules and see how they stack up, thus the handicap system. That’s not just with the pros either, regular players want to see how they measure against the best player at their club and bifurcation would undoubtedly impact that.

Agree and agree.....to a certain extent

For the golfer, like my son, who only plays less than 10 rounds a year and only when I treat 😜🤦‍♂️ because he's an engineering student and can't afford to play golf or wants to spend more time with his girlfriend (and why would he want to do that?).  Why would he want or need to get a handicap.  That being said, I believe that 80-85% of golfers out there SHOULD carry a handicap.  My Sunday league requires a handicap to participate.  We do multiple formats throughout the year and it levels the playing field.  For instance we have 3 guys that pound the ball out to 275-280.  Only one has a single digit handicap the other two lose a lot of balls.  I love going up against them with my 225-240 yard drives 🤣

50 years old here and I'm in favor of the roll back myself. Bring back the Titleist Tour Balata, Bridgestone Rextar and Maxfli HT432 gold box. I know most people enjoy the bomb and gouge game that is played on tour now but I don't particularly care for it. Over the past 5 years or so I have found myself preferring to watch the ladies play. They play a game of strategy and control, something that is becoming lost in the men's game.

I would be curious to know what qualifies as a golfer and what is going to happen with this system.

Bifurcation on a key piece of equipment like this is so lazy and a massive failure for any rule making org.

Edit- got posts mixed up

A few tweeks in course layout can mitigate the bomb and gouge to a novelty forcing the players to strategy and control.  I too like watching the LGPA as well.  Most of those ladies can out drive me by a big margin as well.  LOL

I’ve got enough golf balls to last me well beyond 2026, so as long as no one wants me to rebuy what I already have, I guess I don’t care that much, but to get the pros to dial back 15-20 yards of a 300+ yard drive, I guess I really don’t see the point of such an overhaul. Seems like exerters trying to exert.
