Detroit area course advice needed

We're planning on opening Saturday. Will be weather dependent but it looks like we might be able to get the season rolling.

Hey, big fan of Stonebridge (except for that damn #6). What would have to happen weather-wise for the course to not open this weekend?

Just need the rain to hold off and I don't see why we wouldn't be open. Went out and walked around today and the course is still pretty wet, standing water in the low areas, but it usually dries out pretty quickly. As for deals for WRXers I don't have the ultimate say on that but I'll see what I can do.

Just kidding about the discount. Thanks for the info. Any chance you could update us on Friday? My dad and I were planning to play one of the metropark courses, since they'll definitely be open, but if we can play Stonebridge instead, we'd probably go that route.

 

Also, are you taking tee times, or will it be first come first served this week?

I will definately keep you posted. We are taking tee times so just give us a call 734-429-8383. It's supposed to rain on Friday though so the course might be a little soggy.

Tee time made! ;) Can't wait to finally get the season under way and put all my new gear in play. I'll probably shoot 100.

I would say The Orchards is the best public course in the area, toughest playable course. Shepperd's Hollow is a great one as well, very up north feeling, worth the trip thats for sure. Twin Lakes is also a nice semi private club in the area, 27 holes, always in nice shape, great practice facility as well. Boulder Point is a newer course that has 27 holes, all nice as well. Lots of options in the Detroit area.

Since starting this post last Winter I've made two trips to the Detroit area and ended up playing four courses. I wish I could have played more. Michiganders have a wealth of great golf courses from the South to the North. I played Moose Ridge and Northville Hills on the first trip (in April) and Shepherds Hollow and the Majestic last week. All four layouts were great. The housing around Northville Hills detracted from the ambiance as compared to the other three. I played Moose Ridge just a few days after it opened fro the season. It was in surprisingly good condition and a fantastic bargain. I would recommend it to anyone. It has a great variety of holes and it might have been my favorite of the bunch, although ask me tomorrow and I could jsut as well choose Shepperds Hollow or The Majestic. The Majestic has a good mix of woodland holes and meadowland type holes. It was a beautiful day with a bright blue sunny sky and lots of fluffy clouds. I was in heaven. I birdied a couple of the par 3's which was nice. Shepherds Hollow is almost all Woodland holes, several are pretty tight and there are a lot of elevation chnages, a few of which are severe, but it was not as tough as some people led me to believe. I got the PM rate so it wasn't too expensive. My only complaint was the crummy set of rental clubs they had. For $40 I would expect something decent. It was a mish mosh of old cobra, titlest and Mizuno irons, and a generic putter. The woods were okay... 3 year old cobras with Adila shafts. I was hitting very well with the Cobra Driver, but the irons were bad to mediocre. For such an upscale course and the rental charge I thought they would have provided soemething better.
