Wanted to share my nightmare experience with USPS

Recommended Posts

Hello and good morning Golfwrx community. I just wanted to share a really bad experience I faced dealing with USPS. And would like to share my story and hope nobody ever has to go through this ordeal. So back in March 25th I Purchased an item from a member. I used Paypal G&S to pay. The seller was quick to get the package out to be delivered from Canada. Once I got the tracking number. I would watch the tracking every day till it got to Riverton, Utah on Thursday morning. Around 7am the package was out for delivery to Herriman which is the city I live in. At this point everything is good and normal. Up until around 9am it was headed back to Riverton post office for some reason. And just around 12pm. The package was ready to be picked up at Riverton USPS. But I never requested the package to be picked up to begin with. Anyways its not a big deal at this point cause the post office is on the way home. So I arrive at the post office around 2pm. Waited in a long line for about 45 minutes. And finally get to the clerk. I give the clerk my ID, tracking, and my address. She leaves and about 45 minutes later she comes back empty handed. And tells me we don't have your package. But I point out that it clearly states that its ready for pick up. And ask her did USPS lose my package. She is now getting frustrated at me for some reason. Now she thinks I'm accusing her of losing my package. Which I never accused her of. And proceeds to tell me I don't know what to tell you its not here. I proceed to ask to speak to a manager. She tells me the manager is busy. And isn't available. I then ask her how do you know that? You have been with me for the last hour now. I asked her nicely to please get me a manager to help me with my situation. Cause now the line is almost to the door. There is only 1 clerk that can help the others. Her exact words "fine I'll be back". She comes back after 30 minutes or so. But comes back with no manager and no package still. She is now telling me that the reason the package isn't here is because its out for delivery according to her manager. Now I'm all sorts of confused. And asked her why would it tell me its ready to be picked up. Just so it can go back out for delivery again. She says I don't know. I again ask her to please get a manager. She tells me that's what the manager told me. Things just aren't adding up. People are getting frustrated and even asking the clerk to get a manager for me. She ask for my ID again. Goes to the back somewhere. eventually comes back with a piece of paper. And tells me your address is wrong and it doesn't match what's on the package. We can't do anything for you at this point and you need to contact the sender and canada post. I show her the paypal shipping notification. And it clearly states my address on it. She then tells me that "you most likely have been scammed" "And you need to contact the sender, paypal, and canada post" we can't do anything for you. I ask the clerk can i please get a phone number to the manager please. She said I can't give that to you. And tells me to leave cause they can't do anything for me.

I leave the post office for a few minutes and contact the seller. Which he responded back quickly. I believe the seller is right and the information he put in for the shipping details is correct. And at this point I pretty sure I'm not getting scammed by the seller. I go back in and wait in line. I get to the other clerk. And within a few minutes giving him my tracking and ID. He was able to get me the address that my package is going to. He gives me a piece of paper with the address on it. But the street number is blacked out. Now he says he can't tell me what the address is wink wink. But eventually I picked up on what he was trying to tell me as he is tapping on where its blacked out. I used my camera to zoom in and I can clearly see the street number. He winks at me and tells me good luck. So I head to the address that he provided. Come to find out the address isn't a house or place of business. The address doesn't even exist. I'm freaking out now. I speak to the people that live around there. And they were nice to tell me that this address doesn't exist. I leave and go back to the post office. I get the guy that helped me. And tell him that this address doesn't exist. I went to this exact address. And spoke to the people around there. He then tells me the manager has left for the day and I can come back the next day. I ask for a number instead. But he couldn't give out that information. He suggest that I reschedule a delivery cause it will ask for my address. So I do a reschedule delivery for Friday April 7th. And if everything is good. The package will never make it to the address cause it doesn't exist. And will make its way back to the post office and get rescanned. And it should update with your address. So the Friday comes And the tracking never updates Friday morning. Tracking is telling me its still being process still. Now I'm kinda worried at this point. And head to the USPS closes to my work. After going back and forth with the clerk and explaining my situation. She eventually gives me the phone number to the manager. I give him a call. He picks up and I explained to him my situation. He tells me that he is gonna do everything he can to help. And I give him my name, phone, and address. And I hang up. He contacts me a few minutes later and tells me its out for delivery and its heading to Riverton. So I tell the manager this Riverton address. The same address the clerk gave me that doesn't exist. I tell the manager the address doesn't exist. And that I went there myself. He just says "oh" "let me call you back". He never calls me back. Early Friday afternoon. I check the tracking and it says its been delivered in Herriman. I ask my father in law to check the mail. And he tells me there isn't a package for me. I called the manager but he doesn't pick up or return my call. I get off from work and get home around 6-7pm. I get a knock on my door. And its my package. With the shipping label clearly showing my address and nothing else. I ask the guys that was kind to drop it off to me what city he lives in. He said he lives in Riverton. And I'm just like "WTF" and scratching my head how this became such a big cluster f***. And how USPS manage to screw up so bad even though I provided my address multiple times. And the package clearly has my address. After 6-7 hours of pushing and pushing the package was in my hands. I just want to say thank you so much to @EdMfor his time and help from all the way from canada. So that's my story. Hopefully its good toilet reading material. Have a great rest of the weekend.

@I'_rather_be_golfingThat does sound truly frustrating. I'm really happy you ultimately ended up with the driver head but I definitely feel for you that it was this difficult for it to end up in your hands.

I wish there was a lesson to take from this...but it sounds like USPS may just be unreliable?

I have shipped a number of items from Canada using Canada Post, and this is the first time I have encountered a situation like this. I am now wondering whether FedEx, UPS or DHL would be better.

It may get there for better for sure but the buyer will get a huge surcharge from UPS or FedEx.
