Evnroll 2023

Seems like the hype of Evnroll has died out around here.  I've wanted one for so long, but have only ever had 1 putter (Ping Ketch) and still love it.

The Evnroll was the obvious upgrade for me, I've been eying the Er11vx, but it seems this forum is infatuated with the LAB stuff now.

Curious to see how many people chime in, as I'm also interested it how people are viewing Evnroll these days.

I had a putter fitting last week with the new Evnrolls with the interchangeable hosels/weights (V series).  Very interesting process.  I have a more or less straight stroke and the fitting confirmed which hosels and heads worked (minimal toe hang), as well as getting to try loads of combinations.  Both in use and in hand, the heads all looked and felt very high quality.  I compared them with a couple of Ping's 2022 black finish range and the latter felt much cheaper in finish  Not ordered anything yet (I tend to be  Ping loyalist) but the 5.3 head - fang shape with the bar across the back of the head - was really nice.

The two things which make me hesitate on Evnroll are 1) the very soft/slow feel off the face which has been discussed many times on here and which made me feel I'd have to change my putting approach to make them work by hitting putts harder every time, especially from long range; and 2) the (small) possibility with the V series that as each one is manually assembled by screwing the parts together, there is maybe a risk that they could come loose mid-round.  Also AFAIK, you also can't buy a weights set to vary the head you have bought at different times of year/to different conditions, or get extra hosels.  You get fit, and buy the putter you choose and that's it, which seems a bit odd given the mix/match concept.

Drivers, fairways and hybrids screw together and how often do they come loose mid round?

I have a putter where I can unscrew the neck from body and no issues, worst case carry and allen key in your bag.

True.  The model I'm looking at has six sole weights though. Not hard to imagine one falling out.  In any case, by far the main issue is whether the face is too slow.  However I was really impressed with the look and build quality and it worked well for me inside 15ft.  I'd also like an extra weight set for the price point.

They should be fine unless tolerances suck.

But the slow face part I get, rolled an ER5 I think the other day and rolled well but had better pace with the Scotty and even Odyssey.

While I definitely understand the benefits of and respect the face tech, I just can’t get used to the different sound and feel of them. I wanna love them, but I think they still need to work on that issue.

Yeah, pace is definitely the biggest issue.  I do sometimes use a heavy Ping Ketsch with the TR grooves which is also a little softer/slower than I am accustomed to.  I'd say the Evnrolls are slower still, but they feel and sound firmer than the TR tech (a weird combination).

If I was a one putter man I'd probably just buy one and adjust to it but given I switch around quite a lot, that may not be the best idea.  Tempted though as they are lovely putters and felt point-and-shoot from close in.

I had one of the original ER2 models and I really liked how it swung. However, as many of you all said, the face was so slow. I mean, I tend to come up short sometimes with normal putters and it forced me to really be aggressive (which wasn't a bad thing). The second thing I didn't like was the random tang or metallic sound when I hit the ball. I have no idea how it happened but it happened sporadically and I hated it.

Obviously the technology is legitimate as you can see from the videos but I just wonder how many people hit it so much off center that they need that much tech to help them. If I remember correctly, the groove is the same width 1/2inch in both directions of center.

The 2023 Evnroll putters are very good.  I got fit for the EV 5.2 yesterday. Played 9 with the demo today and results were very good. I typically struggle with alignment and the EV 5.2 is very easy to get correctly lined up. If you have not tried the Evnroll yet schedule a fitting very soon at a local retailer.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
