40 balls- how do you play

Most probably know this game.

4 man teams

each player plays his own ball

at the completion of each hole the team decides how many balls to count for that hole

scoring is in relation to par for each hole ie -1, -2, even, +1 +2 etc,- All scores are net

at the end of 18 holes you must have used 40 balls for your team and your cumulative + or- par is your final score. 

 

The debate is if you have a threesome also playing, how do you calculate their team score ?

You could do a rotating blind. The first person on the card has his score count twice on holes 1,4, 7, 10, 13, 16. 2nd person on holes 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, and similar for person #3.

When we play that game and we have a threesome, they just multiply there score by 3.3 and that gives them there score against a foursome they also must put the same money up as the foursome.

I have played that game and really like it, but I don’t know of an equitable way to adjust for uneven groups.  The whole purpose is to make teams (or players if you’re playing within a group) decide before they tee off on the next hole whether or not to count the hole they just played.  None of the devices like Mystery Man or a blind draw for the 4th player that are used for points games really work with 40 Balls.

The rotating blind (see 3rd post in this thread) solves this problem.

Agree with this. We play that game on occasion (although we ususally do at least 50 balls), but we only do it when it is all foursomes.

 

If you have a threesome then you just need to come up with a different game.
