Sanding .370 tip LAGP shaft to fit a .355 hosel putter

Hey guys,

 

Just a quick question regarding sanding/fitting a .370 putter shaft tip to fit a .355 hosel.

 

I currently have a LAGP TPZ 135 with a .370 tip. Its currently mounted on a different putter but I want to put it on a Scotty Super Select Squareback 2 - which has a .355 hosel. I have read online that "LAPG puts lots of material in the tip, so sanding down to .355 is no issue", but it does not say this on the LAGP website. I have emailed them asking but have no received a response (I'm assuming due to warranty concerns if not done correctly - plus I'm sure they want you to buy more shafts lol). 

 

My questions are:

- Has anyone fit a .370 tip LAGP TPZ 135 into a .355 tip hosel?

- Is sanding down tips on graphite shafts to fit a smaller bore common practice?

- Are there any downsides to doing this?

- Does it make most logical sense to sand the tip to make it fit, rebore the putter hosel, or just suck it up and drop the money on a new .355 tip shaft?

 

If I go through with this, it will be done by a professional club fitter of course. I am hoping I can make this work because as everyone knows, these are not cheap shafts and I'd rather not buy another one if I don't have to. I will be putting a .370 tip UST all in on the putter that the LAGP is coming off of.

A lot are meant to be sanded down to fit .355 just easier. Some they are .355 and you tip trim like 1-2" to get to .370.

I've done it multiple times.   3 of my putters are 355 hosels with 370 LAGP shafts. 

 

It's way easier to sand down the shaft versus rebore a putter head.

sanding it is perfectly fine.  also if you need to fit it back to a .370 hosel you can use a shim no problem for a nice fit.

Isn’t it hard to hide the shim with such shallow insertion?

You can shorten the shim down to insertion length.

Its a putter, should be no issue. I have done .370 hybrid shafts in .355 driving irons so go for it.
