Score Posting Question

Recommended Posts

The pro shop takes care of entering scores shot during league play.

I played a 9-hole round (non-league) on Monday morning and posted my score.

I played a 9-hole league round Monday afternoon. The pro shop has not entered the score yet.

I played a 9-hole league round Tuesday afternoon. The pro shop entered the score and it combined with the Monday morning score I posted.

When the Monday afternoon league round finally gets posted, will that be the score waiting to be combined, or will it combine with the Monday morning round (as it would have been if entered in the order played), and leave the Tuesday afternoon round as the score waiting to be combined?

The differential of the combined score from Monday morning and Tuesday afternoon is 8.6.

If Monday morning was combined with Monday afternoon, the differential would be 12.2

Can't be sure what the system is coded to do. Logically, when Monday's afternoon round is posted, the system could/would/should recognize the 9s played on the same date, change up the way it was originally combined, and leave the Tuesday's 9 as a standalone waiting for the next 9.

But the system might very well be coded that once it has a full 18 to just hold onto it that way and move forward.

But today's Thursday. Hasn't it been posted yet ? If so, you'd know. If not, maybe you should call the pro shop and find out why. Perhaps they recognized the error ?

Anywho, even if the system won't automatically re-arrange the scores, there is a likelihood the pro shop, or the association, can delete the 3 scores and re-enter them properly.

The second score from Monday still has not been posted.

Having the pro shop personnel post our league scores for us is something new this year.

I guess I will kindly mention that they should be posted in the order the rounds were played.

Not sure if this helps, but...

My club posts all of the scores for our various club competitions. They sometimes post them same day, sometimes the next day, and sometimes not until 2-3 days later. It usually depends on how many people played and the manpower they have working in the shop that day/week. I wouldn't expect them to stay several hours after dark simply to post 100+ scores that same day, but within 3-4 days is a pretty reasonable expectation.

Personally, I would put it a bit differently as their response to that might be something like "Don't you think we know that ? We missed it. Sorry".

As opposed to you asking "I played 2 9s on Monday but don't see the 2nd one posted. Any idea what happened ?"

You say it's new this year. Has it happened before or have 2 9s on the same day previously been posted properly ?

I mean it's certainly possible the afternoon round was (supposed to) be posted by different staff & they just missed it. You did say it was "non-league", so the afternoon people might not have even realized they were supposed to post your score - they're apparently not posting everybody's.

Unfortunately that "hurts" the overall WHS as the PCC has to be calculated nightly to give an appropriate 'cap.

I've posted a day or 2 after a couple of times and the GHIN site "reprimands" me and asks me to try to remember to post on the same day. :classic_rolleyes::classic_biggrin:

Oh yes, I would be careful how I worded it. I'm very good friends with one of the people who works in the pro shop. That's why I was hesitating to mention anything to them.

This was our second week of league play, so it hadn't happened before.

The non-league score was the round I posted. The missing score was a league score.

I did a little investigating and see that the scores of other people in the league were posted. They must have just missed mine. It's not a huge deal. I was mostly just curious to see if anyone knew how it worked when 9-hole scores were entered out of order and combined.

I totally agree. I don't expect the scores to be entered that evening. I would just hope they were entered in the order in which they were played. i.e Monday scores get entered before Tuesday scores, etc. regardless of how long it takes to put them in.

So they just missed one. Ah well, stuff happens. Dunno1.gif

IMO Software picks the most recent 9 hole round and uses it.  But it also depends on how often the Application Server cycles.

Under the USGA system before the WHS, the scores were combined in the order they were received in the player’s record, and “not necessarily by date.”

It probably didn’t change. Just a guess though.

That makes the most sense. It could turn into a mess if combined scores were readjusted in situations like mine.

The Monday afternoon league 9-hole round was posted by the pro shop this morning. It did not replace the Tuesday afternoon 9-hole round that combined with the Monday morning 9-hole round.

It is waiting for another 9-hole round to be combined with. So as expected, the rounds get combined in the order they are entered, even if that is not the order they were played.
