Hole 1 460 yd par 4

 

Shot 1 low and left, not a good start. Will have to manufacture something out of the rough in order to hit the green.

Shot 2 looked like a thick lie, advanced it short right of the green. Shor sided over a bunker in the rough.

Shot 3 standing in the bu kee, ball in the rough. Wide open 60* stops 20 feet away. Great shot.

Shot 4 left to righter, good line but a hair too much pace

Shot 5 in the hole

Shot 1 absolutely laced 60 yards past everyone into the no divot zone. Best swing of the week. 

Shot 2 25 feet past the hole to the back of the green. Good play, don't want to be short of this flag.

Shot 3 defensive putt to 3 feet

Shot 4 in the hole. Good par.

 

+1 through 2, +22 overall

 

Even saw him laugh when he was in the fairway and smile after he made the putt. Good sign.

Shot 1 WAY over drew a 9 iron, well left of the green in the rough. That was a @parmark swing.

Shot 2 pitch to 6 feet

Shot 3 played right edge and never broke

Shot 4 in the hole

Good luck to you. Most of us wouldn't break 110 under those course conditions, crowds etc.. even if we felt well. Heck I may have a hard time teeing it up because of nerves

Hole 4 378 par 4

 

Shot 1 had driver out, switched to 2 iron. Right rough. He's not smiling anymore.

Shot 2 50/50 lie on a mound and needed to flight a low one to keep it under a tree branch. Jumped on him, went over the green into a bunker.

Shot 3 FINALLY draws a flat bunker lie. 4 feet.

Shot 4 in the hole. 

 

+2 through 4, +23 overall

Shot 1 over drawn into the water. Killer.

Drop for shot 2

Shot 3 he's taken back on a line relief and dropped on a forward teebox. Layup, he'll have 180 in.

Shot 4 Monte didn't seem to like it, but it's 6 feet for par.

Shot 5 burned the left edge

Got to chat with him as he was walking up to the green. He said he had a very small amount of food this morning, and is beginning to regret it. He feels like puking again. No heaving yet though.

Shot 1 left fairway bunker. Yikes. 

Shot 2 bit of an upslope, no lip to deal with. Blocked it way right. That one earned a club throw 

Shot 3 30 yds right of the green, well below the surface with tree trouble and a bad lie. He's got nothing. So naturally,  he almost holes it. Career shot there. 10 inches.

Shot 4 in the hole. 

 

+3 through 6, +24 overall.

Hole 7 213 yd par 3

 

Shot 1 hits it over the green for about the 10th time this week. Not far from where he whiffed yesterday. 

Shot 2 US Open lie. He didn't whiff it, but he didn't get it out of the rough.

Shot 3 better lie, carries it 2 inches onto the fringe and was lucky to stop it 15 feet past the hole. Brutal.

Shot 4 nasty lipout. Could've gone in for the same price.

Shot 5 in the hole.

Shot 1 fore right. He's hit this in the water right of 5 fairway 100 yards right of his target.

Shot 3 call it 140 and he needs to get it up quickly to go over some gigantic trees. On the green, 30 feet.

They actually called @parmark and I inside the ropes to help search for the ball and udentify where it crossed.

Things seem to be going a bit better today - sucks about Monte's health issues. Can't trust restaurant food.

 

When I was a traveling athlete I always carried a loaf of bread, a jar of peanut butter, nuts, granola bars, and ramen noodles to cook in motel coffee pots. Would buy fresh fruit and safe protein when necessary.

 

In any event, looks like Monte's victories will be avoiding a WD or finishing last - and I think he can do it!

Hole 9 427 yd par 4

 

Shot 1 decent swing that trickled into the left rough

Shot 2 must have been a nasty lie as he took a serious hack at it. 30 yards short of the green.

Shot 3 short sided over a bunker from the cabbage. He was less than a yard away from trampled rough, but he drew another awful lie and it jumped on him. Back fringe, which is a terrible place to be to this flag. 

Shot 4 used putter and did very well to get it to 9 feet

Shot 5 burns the right edge. Good putt.

Shot 6 in the hole

Talk about your all time bad luck. My father in law is a retired Chef and is only about 15-20 mins away from Sentryworld so I should have asked Monte over and he could have had some way better food that we would have known is completely cooked. Speaking of making some ribs sounds like an excellent idea today.

Hole 10 566 yd par 5

 

Shot 1 hand off the club, misses right. Almost on top of where he was yesterday. Shot 2 tried to go through a high window, just missed and ricochet off a tree back left towards the fairway.

Shot 3 still no angle from the right rough, punch out

Shot 4 plugged in the lip of the front greenside bunker.  This should be interesting. 

Shot 5 incredible shot to 4 feet

Shot 6 in the hole

 

+8 through 10, +29 overall

 

Monte's reaction when he saw the lie was fantastic and drew a laugh from the gallery. After his fantastic bunker Shot he said "everyone please pardon me for thjs" and flipped off the bunker. Got a great pop from the crowd.

Shot 1 Monte now in full blown gallery pleasing mode now, pulling driver here when it is most definitely not the play. Club drop, way way right. Provisional into the right rough.

Shot 2 first ball located in the rough a foot from #4 fairway. Wedge over the trees onto the green.

Shot 3 roller coaster putt down and up and down ridges to 5 feet.

Shot 4 just breathes on it and it wiggles offline. Not a putt he could be aggressive with.

BTW according to the USGA site, you're off one on your count. They have him at +9 through 12, and +30 overall. 

 

Granted they could be wrong--not sure how they do their tracking and perhaps they're off and it'll be reconciled after he turns in his card today.

Hole 13 418 yd par 4

 

Shot 1 hammer ball. Not as good as the 370 ball on Monday, but 320 down the pipe into the wind works just fine.

Shot 2 got gusted, came up 20 yards shirt in the water.

Drop for shot 3

Shot 4 into the back bunker. Not surprising after what just happened. 

Shot 5 splash out to 5 feet

Shot 6 over the left edge

Shot 7 in the hole 

 

Mistyped a score a few holes ago, sorry about that. Monte is +12 today, +33 for the tournament.
