Options for 8’ ceilings?

I am 5‘6“ high and my garage is more or less exactly 8‘ high

i play my irons and hybrids up to 40“ shaft length, with the longer sticks I have to swing more shallow. This is not my normal swing and that’s why I am not doing it often. But my standard iron set I can play like outdoors…

No idea. I wouldn't think so since the roof beams are attached to the outer wall frame not the floor beams. It seems like the floor beams are mostly for attic floor support. I would only be cutting a 6-7' portion of only 2 beams. I can't imagine that would compromise anything structurally. I would not be doing this myself. I would hire someone. I was just looking to get an idea of the difficulty and possible cost.

Thats a fairly easy job. Won't write a book explaining what to do since you'll be hiring a contractor to do the work. Any contractor that's legit will have no problem framing that out without compromising the integrity of the structure. No permit, no engineer needed!

What would you ballpark to be a reasonable cost to do this, including sheet rocking the raised area. I can paint it. In NJ if that matters.

rough frame - 1600 + materials, sheetrock and finishing 500+,big price range for sheetrock,. electrical is easy to access since it's an attic. You can move the ductwork if you want, it looks like the end of the run so that's not a problem to shorten if that helps the layout. I'm in Ct , the pricing here is probably similar. Here we got guys charging 1500 a day for a 2-man crew, and then guys like me, older and just looking for interesting projects that pique our interest! Best bet is to get a recommendation  from a friend, family member or workmate. Meet up and see what they think. Gotta get moving, cold weather has arrived!

Thanks. Appreciate the info. So looks like 2-3k. No need for electrical or to move the duct. Basically just frame a 4'x6' box and sheetrock it. Would this be something a handyman could do or should I look for a contractor? Trying to be price conscious but don't want the ceiling to collapse either 🙂.

Depends on what you have for ceiling joists/rafters. If you have trusses you'll need an engineer to run the loads, those things can't just be cut out like a standard 2x ceiling joist. I cut out my ceiling joists in my garage and there is a finished room above. I would compare the penetration to a skylight rough opening. Cost? I'm a contractor and off the top of my head I would think 2-3 k. If I was your neighbor, we would knock it off in a couple of weekends for pizza, beer and 500$ and lifetime membership !

There’s a house for sale next to mine. Are you interested?😂

$$$$

Yeah this is the same situation I'm at with my new home.  It KILLED me to find an almost perfect house but the basement ceilings are 8ft which pretty much killed my simulator plans.  I have considered trying to buy like 10ft of the people's property line behind me that is just extra mowing for them, and then putting in a shed kinda like what Lou Stagner did (if you follow him on twitter) so I'd have a place to play with all my golf toys.  But that might be an older/wiser/empty household J Tizzle plan...
