Garsen putter grips: WTF?

I just got a used putter off an auction site, a Mizuno OMOI III in black ion. The new ones have a black shaft too and it is beautiful. 

 

BUT the putter came with Garsen Max Tour grip. The very first time I put my hands on it, the putter was sooooo closed: it was very weird. I putted on my little practice green in my house, and this grip NEVER felt right. I mean, it's sooooo strange. According to the website, Garsen grips are straight grips (think SS Flatso or similar) but rotated 45*. in fact, I thought maybe the previous owner had installed the grip wrong. They say it's gets the elbows, shoulders, and wrists in better alignment, but shiiiite, man, it feels otherworldly, and not in a good way. 

 

Does anyone else have experience with this grip?

The Max line is probably their least popular line. It's meant to work with kind of a palms up kinda grip to keep the elbows in. It's something you either have to already putt that way or adapt to quickly. 

 

Their other grips are better in a more traditional useage so don't write the brand off. They're getting quite popular on tour and with putter brands.

Yeah per their website it is meant to encourage a specific type of grip setup and it sounds like you maybe took a "normal" grip approach to it:

If you aren't gripping it the way they suggest in the videos above it'll probably feel weird/wrong.

Never tried the Garson Max, but I have tried the Kotahi, BJM grip. I assume they are similar.

The Kotahi keeps the palms pointing up and my shoulder blades spread wider.

For me it is good for my straight back and through strokes.

I like it on my 2 Ball Eleven for putts under 30 feet, but I struggle to get the ball to the hole on longer lag putts.

Similar-ish idea but different execution. The Kotahi there's a whole system for just setting up to grip the club. The Max is kinda just grab and go but then again the Max is more for people who already putt like that.

I watched the videos on the Garsen website to figure out how to grip it, and I feel like I've got it figured out. BUT it hurts my wrists and elbows and shoulders in ways the "normal" grips don't. I mean, I still can't figure out what problem this is supposed to solve. Definitely gonna replace this grip with a SS Flatso 1.0, a grip I have on other putters and absolutely love! 

 

It's just that I've never seen or heard of this grip company, and the fact that any of y'all have, and also have positive reviews of their stuff, just boggles my mind. And that Kotahni grip? WOW! That seriously has me scratching my head.

The standard garsen quad tour grips are awesome, probably my favorite right now, this one as noted above is a more unique option for sure.

Agree on the garsen quad tour, helps me set my arms and shoulders in a good place and a nice alternative to a superstroke imo. I've always struggled with superstrokes durability when I have had them on my putters as they break down pretty quickly.

Garsen grips are really popular on tour and local courses. It's an OEM grip for Odyssey, SeeMore, and some others. The Quad Tour is one of their top ones along with the Max.

If you are having pain from a simple putter grip you should go see a doctor. Sounds like something else is wrong that is worth getting checked out.
