Struggling with making swing change: swing advice would be much appreciated.

Recommended Posts

I'm really struggling with the root cause of my issues. I've been advised a few different things (listed below) but as much as I try to make a swing change, I video it and its the same.

I have/had a major issue with the reverse pivot, early extending, flipping the club, not loading correctly....

It feels like at the top of my swing I tend to push off my back foot and lose my spine tilt, and then I have to early extend and flip the club.

Been trying to make the change for the last couple months but just struggling actually making the change, I have uploaded some videos, any swing advice would be much appreciated on where to start and how to fix.

1st thing, fix the rhythm. you start slow then accelerate fast before transition.

1) Try: fast to P2-> get slower->get real slow in transition-> get fast after transition

2) With rushed transition you are standing up too and coming out of angles and position.

3) Takeaway is pulling club way inside way too early. It's tying things up and will continually mess with results.

4)Optimize posture, grip & balance. It could be better.

All these are somewhat related. Addressing these basic things is more than plenty to work on. Eat the elephant one bite at a time, be patient.

Agree with improve rhythm.

It’s all about getting your right hip moving in the backswing.  Your left hip comes out and away from the target and makes your pelvis sway and move toward the ball.

Practice moving your right hip away from the ball and toward the target against a wall.

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.

When you walk your left hand and right foot are synchronized and swing together in sync and your right foot and left hand are synchronized and swing together in sync.

Your weight pressure is all crossed up. You've never seen a baseball pitcher hang on his left side while throwing to the catcher.

When you swing your left hand back allow your weight to shift to your right foot.

He's shifting his pressure back and forth before he starts the club back. It's all one motion from start to finish. The backswing is distal to proximal, the downswing is the opposite sequence.

I'm taking the swing advice piece out of it. I truly believe amateur's don't make swing changes because they practice going full speed. You need to swing slow enough to where it actually looks different on camera, regardless of how well you hit it.

IMO, making a swing change is not fun. It's gruesome and tiresome, but in the end we hope it's worth it.

Agree and think video feedback is extremely valuable. Record every swing or every other swing until you can make a change with slow motion and feel it. Then keep going and eventually slowly increase speed

I think you've got some misconceptions of some aspects of the swing.

Yes, there should be a slight shift of pressure into your back foot initially in the swing-- but you're shifting weight back by turning your upper body back over your trail foot.

Yes, you want to get pressure on your lead side before impact-- but you're moving your head and entire upper body ahead of the ball.

Yes, you want to swing down from the inside-- but you're getting your right arm (and the club) stuck behind you in the downswing.

There's a lot of chain-reaction stuff going on. You get the club inside early and move all your weight over your trail foot by facing your chest down behind you somewhere. Then, in an effort to undo that and get to your lead side, you lift the club high and try to lean your upper body toward the target. This pulls your head and shoulder up and forward. From there, you have to try to shove the club back around in front of you to a ball which has just moved @ 4" back in your stance, and you throw the clubhead at the ball early in order to not miss the ball altogether.

I'd look to videos of Jon Rahm for a better concept of what makes the swing work extremely efficiently. His swing is "short" but powerful, his shift is early and always looks like he's moving "down hill," he stays "behind" the ball, and his strike is down and through. (Obviously there are countless ways to swing and get it done at all levels -- but I think the Rahm's actions are some of the most concise and easily perceived.)

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
