Star Sidewinder Grips?

I think Star claims to have the tightest weight tolerances. Never hear about the roundness.

Both Pure and Star are made using injection molding, rather than casting the grip in 2 pieces and connecting them (and then buffing to seam to smooth them out). That's what leads to a perfectly round and symmetrical grip, which you won't get with almost any other grip manufacturer. I think NO1 Grip and Iomic are also injection molded using EPDM, but those are both 50-100% more expensive than Star grips.

I recall a few years back a grip company advertised that their quality control was so tight that their grips were noticeably rounder than any other. Was that Star?

For build up purposes, does Star Grip recommend a specific type of tape?  What do you use with success?

I just use regular masking tape, one sided. For example, my own grips are four wraps bottom hand, one wrap top, blown on. I've never had a grip shift or move in about 20 years. And many of them are that old!

I’ve got masking and the brown buildup tape from Golf Works… I prefer the buildup tape for its thickness but it feels much more “slick” compared to masking.

just bought some of these based on feedback in the forum, I don't like them, not sticky or tacky and hopeless when your hands are wet. The Itomic Tacki Mac IT2, or Iomic seem to be the best grip for those playing in humid or wet conditions.

Wow. I've never heard anyone say that before.  Most people seem to feel the opposite. Which model grips did you get?

I purchased 1 (undersize) under the trial offer and put it in on my driver. Game changer for me. Very tacky and all it takes is a damp towel to clean off sweat and revive the tack. Played 2 rounds last week in +90º heat and +70% humidity this grip was outstanding, very tacky. There are not many option for people that use undersize grips. Ordered enough for 2 sets of clubs. May try the air installation this time around? Very happy customer.

that's what I thought.  I ordered the star sidewinder and was expecting a better grip to be honest. I've emailed them to see if there is anything I can do to 'activate' the tack

I've played Iomic most of the last 10-15 years, and find the Sidewinder 360 to be every bit as sticky. If it's not, a little soap and water brings it right back.

Agree. I use a coarse scrubby and a little Dawn detergent. Tacky for months after. And this will work for years and years.

What color did you get for the undersize?

I have the undersize in orange. It's bright florescent orange, which I wasn't expecting, as I had a set of their standard size orange last spring, which were a "normal" orange color. Apparently they changed to the brighter orange not long before I ordered. I bought 20 last Black friday when they were $5 each.

I noticed on their website that they describe the color as "neon orange"

Send them back! You paid for the grippiest grips in golf! Sounds like you got the slippiest.

Yes, they do now, but not when I ordered them. At the time, I could not even find a pic of the "neon orange" grips I received. Everything on the website showed the old orange grips.

For anyone interested in trying Star grips, they do have a "sample" program where you can buy up to 3 grips at a 25% discount w/free shipping (normally you need to spend $50+ to get free shipping). https://stargrip.com/products/sample-grips

This needs to be posted again.  I never realized they offered this

I’m adding another +1 to the Star Grip sidewinder, so far these are great.

I’ve always needed more tack to help with the conditions and sweaty hands. I’ve tried multiple cord grips (Lamkin Crossline Cord was the best of the bunch), pretty much all the Golf Pride ones which I ended up having to replace more often than I’d like, and settled on the Iomic X Evolutions which have been very good. I wanted to try the GolfPride Super Tack but they stopped making a normal version and now only offer them on their site with the Align technology (for $13 a pop). I don’t quite have it in the budget for leather grips so I’ve never tried them.

The Star grip seems like a mixture of a Tour Velvet 360 and a Lamkin Sonar if it was tapered. There’s a little bit of give but not overly squishy. I don’t have an air compressor but had zero problems with tape and solvent. Also like the fact that I can still adjust my woods without having to worry about grip logo alignment. Can’t beat the price either.

I think it's that little bit of squishiness that I didn't like.  I tested these against Iomic Sticky, Revolution and X-grip (the Hideki version, not the iXx or whatever).  I liked the X grip the best of the bunch, but went another way.

Interesting. I find them quite firm. Not nearly as squishy as a Winn. Just a bit softer/tackier than a Z-Cord, or similar. And, of course, they stay that way, for many years. Unlike any other grip. So you can count on that same exact feel, round after round.
