Has anybody read Science of the Golf Swing?

Has anybody read Science of the Golf Swing by Michael Jacobs? As a golf nerd who loves reading about the swing and how it works, I thought it looked interesting. It is quite pricey. About $115 I think on Amazon.  I haven’t paid that much for a book since buying textbooks for college many years ago. It gets good reviews anyways. Has it helped anybody’s game?

If you Google the name and author, you will see a Youtube video with a discussion between Mr. Jacobs and Dr. Steven Nesbit. It's about an hour and is absolutely mind-numbing!

No need, here's the free science book,  one chapter, one sentence. 

 

The front goes backward as the back goes frontward so the back can move backward and the front can move back forward.

It is mind numbing. I just wonder if there is something useful that can be applied to the swing. He is ranked fairly high as far as Golf Digest and Golf Magazine is concerned. Not quite sure how that is decided, but the man seems to have a lot of knowledge.

I read the short version/slash ad for the long version.  I think the problem is that Jacobs is…apparently not a scientist.

Don't know the one you reference.   Newton on the Tee and Swing Like a Pro might be similarly entertaining, and less $$.  But I don't know that either would help your play.

Exactly. All motions are complex. Write a process analysis paper on scratching you head and it will be well over a page and a half. We need to associate unknown motions with known motions to make things simpler to learn. A perfect example is the motion of the right hand in the golf swing is just like skipping a stone. Since I have skipped stones all during my childhood (still ongoing at 60!) it was simple to associate it to the swing. However, since I didn't find out about this until in my 50's, it was difficult to ingrain because I had spent YEARS doing it the wrong way.

But what if you threw/skipped stones left handed and swing a club/implement right handed?  :).... asking for a "friend"

I'm curious, how did you go about ingraining that motion into your golf swing and did it pay off?

Simply by repetition and constant reminders. The process is literally still ongoing and probably will be until I stop playing. But I have a much better hand on it now than before. That's how strong those old habits are. My right hand inherently wants to roll over at impact because I was taught that in the beginning and spent countless years trying to make it work.
