High school rules opinions

Here's a situation that I ran into at a high school tournament recently.  Any and all opinions welcome.  Player A calls a penalty on player B for failing to mark his ball on the green when lining up his ball to putt.  On the following hole player A notes on his scorecard that player B knocked some leaves off of a tree taking a practice swing before hitting his approach.  The players finish the round and player A attempts to call a two stroke penalty on player B for the infraction.  At the time player A saw this he was on the opposite side of the fairway, approximately 50 yards away.  It was not determined if player B did indeed knock leaves off the tree.  After discussion the coaches of each team decided that the first penalty would stand, but the second would not.  This did not affect the team outcome of the tournament.  Player B placed T2 with the one shot penalty.  I'm looking for opinions on how you would have handled this situation.

To me it was handled correctly.  Regarding the leaves if it is Player A's word against player B and nobody else saw anything they will normally side with the player, which they did.

 

Seems like player A really has it out for player B though.  lol

Sounds like the rules officials handled it correctly but players A and B might throw hands in the parking lot afterwards.

South Central PA?  I'm from the same area and coach a team in the York/Adams league.  I think it was handled well.  50 yards away saying leaves fell it a tough one to agree on.  Marking the ball is fine.  My guess these 2 play with each other often in matches?

How did player A finish? Lot of focus on bringing someone else down usually doesn’t coincide with a good day.

I agree.  I asked if they have been paired up before, because sounds like their might be some history behind this.

I would encourage this so it doesn't present itself at a different tournament. 😉

 

You get to kids with history and it can make for a long round.

 

Son was paired up with a known stroke shaver a few times.  I think the last time he let the kid get 4 holes in and then walked him through every shot.

 

Daughter had a few but TBH I would worry about them more....

Both players finished T2

No... it was actually a non-league match.  Play once a year.  Really no previous history.
