Calling all Navy Veterans and Active Duty Members

Can you guys provide feedback on how active duty Navy sailors transport and store golf clubs on Navy ships. Specifically, aircraft carriers. My son is currently assigned to one and I wanted to know if it were possible for him to store clubs in his locker or under his rack. A quick google says these lockers are big enough but I wanted to get feedback and any additional advice from sailors who have already done this song and dance. Appreciate it in advance and thank you for your service! 🫡

My son is active duty Navy but when I asked him, he had no idea.  Hope your son has a safe deployment!

I made several cruises on aircraft carriers many years ago as a civilian engineer and never recall seeing anyone bring golf clubs on board, I think it would be frowned upon, space on any ship is a premium. I shared officers quarters (2-4 man rooms) and probably could have squeezed a bag inside the room but wouldn't have considered it. Played several rounds at Subic Bay and Camp John Hays in the PI and as I recall clubs were included in the price.

Unless you are an officer or a supply person with hookups, there really isn't a good place to keep clubs on board. I wasn't on a carrier, but I would assume it's the same on any boat. Space is a premium.

His recruiter promised him he could live in Hawaii and when deployed he could bring his sticks on board. 🤣

I was on a small ship, minesweaper, but luckily i had access to our electronics tech supply closet and stashed mine in there. Not sure on a carrier but our bunk lockers were pretty much full after putting uniforms and supplies in it.

I deployed on carriers and smaller ships (cruisers & destroyers) and there is space in the officer state rooms, but the enlisted berthing is a lot tighter. He could talk to a senior enlisted Chief or officer who plays golf too and they might be able to help him out with space or he could also take everything except his clubs (shoes, balls, gloves, etc.) and rent clubs while in port. I played in Dubai, Bahrain, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Singapore, etc. so there is plenty of good courses to check out during port calls.

I was on the Theodore Roosevelt from 96-99. Our division had a gear locker in our berthing compartment. That is where I kept my clubs when we were underway. Played in Halifax, St. Maarten, Ft. Lauderdale, Dubai, Spain, and Greece. 

 

There is not enough room to store them in his rack or his storage locker.
