TSR1 Fairways - Any Experience

gvogel

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at the TSR1 15*, 18* and/or 20* fairway clubs.  I would not use the lightweight shafts, but would use a Ventus TR Red 5R or 6R.

Has anyone played a TSR1 fairway with a 60 gram shaft or heavier?

I have a TSR1 15° (set to 15.75°) that I put a heavier weight in and a heavier shaft (Atmos Tour Spec Red 8S). It is by far the best fairway wood I've ever used. I've always struggled to launch fairway woods from the turf, but this one has become a weapon for me. I can actually go for that par 5 from 250 now, because this setup launches the ball for me, while being easy to hit. That heavier weight in the back makes it super forgiving and gives me the spin I need to keep the ball in the air.

Don't quote me on this, but I seem to remember that the TSR1 stock setup is only a couple grams lighter than the TSR2. So it's not some super featherweight setup anyway.

thanks for the information.  I would play the 15* set the same way, but with a Ventus TR Red 5R or 6R shaft.  And hope to get a few more yards than my Ping G25 5-wood, or use off the tee sometimes.

Check out the Atmos Red (non Tour Spec) in 5R or 6R. Similar high flight, but with a cheaper price tag. Still a Fujikura product.

The TSR1 heads themselves are only about 2g lighter than the same TSR2 models -> I've measured a few.  The big weight savings of the entire club comes from a lightweight shaft and lightweight grip.  Take a TSR1 head, chuck the lightweight shaft, and shaft up with your fav 80-90-100g shaft and fav grip.

I love my TSR1 20-23-26 hybrids ( with EFW 90S shafts ) and recently grabbed a 23* TSR1 FW head ( 9-wood ) to fool around with.  I really should have waited for a deal on an 18 or 20, as the 23 is just too much loft, but it was an impulse buy.

I tried that 23 FW head with an EFW 65g FW shaft playing to 42" and also a Ping Tour 65 Reg also at 42".  The results were that it wasn't appreciably longer, nor as good dispersion, than my 20 or 23 Hybrids -> which I have really dialed in now for shaft length, and swing-weight.  My swing favours hybrids vs FW, so I'm not dissing the FW.  I am on the lookout for a TSR1 15 or 20  -> need something to tinker with in the off-season. 👍

I agree.  I have TSR1 26* and 23* hybrids with 70 gram shaft which I really like.  I am only interested in the 15* and 20* fairways.

How big is the TSR1 9w head? This is always the question mark with Titleist if you haven't seen the club live...

Heads are big, but that is what I like about them ( in the hybrids anyway ) as they are almost FW-like in size -> forgiveness.  If you want a small Titleist head, go TSR3.

I'm away for a couple days now, but when I'm back I'll post a pic of my 20-23-26 TSR1 hybrids heads and the 23 FW head.

Love my TSR1 23* and 26* hybrids.  They look like little fairway woods - and they work great!

My TSR1 hybrid with the atmos blue TS 85g shaft is my favourite club in the bag.

So easy to hit, and arrow straight (almost) every time. Plays like a mini 7 wood!

Thanks to those who responded to this thread.

Last night I put a 15 gram weight in the back of my TSR1 12* driver head to get the swing weight to D3 (Ventus TR Red 5R shaft).  So now i have 11 gram and 13 gram weights to play with if I order a 15* or 20* TSR1 fairway.

Looking forward to hitting the TSR1 driver tonight.

  • 1 month later...

Update: Yesterday a package came with a TSR1 5-wood, Ventus TR Red 6R shaft.  I bought it to replace a Ping G25 5-wood that has been very faithful.

I now own TSR1 12* driver (Ventus TR Red 5R), and TSR1 26* and 23* hybrids (Atmos Tour Spec 75R shafts).

The hybrids are great, and I am having more success with the 12* TSR1 than the 11* TSR2 driver that I was fit for.  Turning 71 next week, and need to increase swing speed (currently 80 mph).
