Tour Velvet +4

Recommended Posts

I made the jump BACK to standard sized grips, from Midsize two years ago, and it's had a pretty significant positive impact on my game.

My question. These Tour Velvet +4s. They have them in standard size but will that extra wrap make it feel like a Midsize?

I know your grip strength is 90% in your lead hand, but I wanted to try these out, as they advocate "reducing tension, with added power". Reducing tension in the trail hand seems like something of a no brainer for anyone really so that's why I'm interested.

Anyone using these have any more info?

If you have been playing with a standard grip size with standard tape the only difference will be the non-taper of the lower hand. The lower section of the grip will feel the same as the upper section.

I have used these grips for a few years now in the MCC+4 version. I preferred the MCC version over the Tour Velvet due to the material and squishy feeling. I like the non taper of the lower hand on both grips since it does reduce the tension for me. I switched recently to the Lamkin ST+2 Hybrid grip since the material is easier on my hands compared to the MCC. This grip has a good mix of a standard grip with some taper vs the non-taper of the +4. I find for me the +2 still does a great job with reducing lower hand tension as well.

Going from a standard tapered grip (MCC) to a standard non tapered grip (MCC+4) took some adjustment time, but nothing crazy. The +2 is a nice happy medium if not wanting to go fully non tapered.

Good luck on the journey!

Just wish we could get a Tour 360 +4.

It is pretty similar to a midsized standard-taper-Tour Velvet in the lower hand I would say, while it is essentially standard sized closer to the butt cap.

It would be one of my favorite grips if they offered it with a reminder/ribbed (not align, a real reminder).

Midsized grips feel weird for my left/upper hand, while standard grips are too thin for my lower hand. So the +4 (Golfpride) or +2 (Lamkin) grips are the ones for me

You prefer the 360? I'm really not a fan. They came on my set of Rogue St Pros and I feel like they wore out and lost all of their tack real quick. They were also much more firm than the standard TV in my opinion. I like a little bit of softness in a grip but, that's only because I've recently went gloveless.

I don’t disagree with your take. I do prefer the TV but don’t like the two logos on the +4. So yes, if GP will give me a TV+4 that looks like the regular TV we have a winner.

Couldn’t agree more. Putting logos on both sides of the grip is the whole reason why I won’t consider playing these.

I've been playing GP Tour Velvet +4 for awhile now and I agree with the longevity. My only complaint from them is they have the lifespan of pudding sitting in the sun. I just bought some Crosslines but I'll give the Royals a try in the future.

I played Crossline Blacks for years. 2 wraps of thin masking tape, two more for the bottom, and one two sided over that. It was a PITA and the logo is massive.

Royals are one wrap of two sided and that's it. I have em on clubs I don't even play.

Are they Golfworks knockoff of the TV that happened to be decent quality? Or are they made by similar manufacturers?

No clue. All I know is the TVs are done after about 4 months down here. The Royals are still good after a year.

ps. I wipe all my grips down every couple weeks and scrub them with soap/water every 3 or 4 weeks.

I love the TV Plus4 Standard, and I found it to be slightly larger than the TV standard size, somewhere between standard and midsize. I want to try the Royal M Taper 360, but do you think it's the same size as the TV Plus 4?

IMO, the M Taper 360's are closer to regular than midsize, with a slightly larger bottom. They're definitely larger than a regular grip.

I originally switched (after many years) from Lamkin Crossline Blacks because I was tired building them up with tape. The Royals are exactly what I like with one wrap of 2 sided tape.

I'm not familiar with the TV +4's. If you love them, I wouldn't change. You could always experiment, and get one M Taper along with your next order of TV's.

I played some various variants over the years. Most of the time it was standard grips with 3 extra wraps. Then tried +4’s with 3 wraps. The biggest thing is the right hand. The left hand section will feel the same as a standard grip.

currently I’m playing tour velvet cord standard size on driver through PW. Then I play MCC +4’s on all my wedges. I prefer these on my wedges because it keeps the feeling of the grip relatively the same when I choke down for chip shots or partial shots.

Best way is try it out on a club and see how it feels. You can always remove it if you don’t like it and try something else.
