Mizuno ST-G 220 driver ?

If anybody here plays the ST-G 220 driver is it an unforgiving club ?

I know the ST-Z and ST-X are reasonably popular and forgiving on less than perfect strikes, but have not read or heard much about the forgiveness of the ST-G.

Stg-440 is forgiving, fast and long. Not sure about the 220 though.

Have you played previously the ST-Z or ST-X 220 driver ? I play the ST-Z 220 and am curious about how the ST-G 220 compares. Glad you like your ST-G 440.

I’ve played the Stz-220 for a few rounds when my son had it…very good, very straight driver and was slightly shorter then my gamer at the time. But was def straighter. The 440 so far is like the Stz-220 was except with the length it was missing.

I played the STg 220 for over a season and sold it like a fool. I also played for brief periods of time the STz 220, 230, and STx 230. The forgiveness difference was marginal between all of the above clubs for me. Now I’m in the STg 440 and for me it’s the most forgiving of the bunch! The STg lines are just the best performing drivers for me.

Thanks for your replies. The ST-G 220 model is now being sold at low prices so I will give it a try. Also, my ST-Z 220 has the Aldila Ascent 60 gram shaft, which I like o.k. but would not mind trying a different shaft in that head (which I will have the opportunity to do by swapping in whichever shaft comes with the ST-G 220).

Which shaft (s) have you guys liked best with your Mizuno driver heads ?

The Ventus TR blue was a monster in my 220. It’s been too cold to tell how good it’s going to be in the 440 but I also have a TR red I’m about to try.

I have the Lin-Q M40X Red 6s and really really like it. But I also have a Ventus Red, Hzrdus Green, Rogue White I can swap in if I feel the need…but don’t have any intentions right now.

I play LIN-Q shafts in some Mizuno hybrid clubs and like them very much. So on my radar is the LIN-Q M40X driver shaft.

The ST-G 220 driver I will receive has a Fujikura Motore F3, which is a shaft I've never tried.

The Fuji is a good shaft too. Have a buddy that plays it in his ST180 and he keeps talking about needing a new driver but the dummy hits his driver better than everyone in our group that has new drivers 🤦🏻‍♂️😂…except maybe now with mine 😬. Everytime he says it he’ll bomb one and we’re like yeah you really need a new driver it sucks being long and in the fairway. 🙄

Yesterday I took the opportunity to try the ST-G 220 driver but the results were not good. At the driving range the G shots had significantly less carry yardage than my ST-Z 220.

I probably don't have enough swing speed to hit proper shots with the ST-G 220. My ST-Z produces medium trajectory shots without too much spin, as the bounce and roll after landing is good, so I will stick with that one.

This has been my gamer for 2 years now, coming from ST190 and ST200.

As this has the weighting system and normal adjustability, you can set it to basically whatever you want. I have 9 degree head with various shafts, my favorite being the Tensei Blue 60 stiff. When set to 9 degrees, the head sits open and is very much low spin, goes long but it is not forgiving at all.

As I want to hit more fairways and do not want to spend 600$ plus for a new driver, I set it to 11 degrees and put the weights in the back and draw. Voila that thing goes higher and much straighter now. Perhaps maximum distance is a little less but overall driving is better and more reliable now.

In short due to its many options you can adjust this driver to what you need.
