Golf Ball Durability (chipping practice)

How long will a golf ball keep its performance? Say we buy a box of ProV and hit a few hundred chip shots and pitches a day and never lose them. How long until they stop spinning like when they were new?

I will assume seriousness....

I think this is overthinking. Most people's practice balls are balls they took out of play due to a slight scratch or something. I think the fact the ball was once a brand new ProV1 is more important than the ball being a brand new Wilson Duo.

But if you are worried about it, then to support the club pros out there, you should buy a new dozen every other week.

Chipping isn't going to do anything to a ball other than get it dirty. Even with a dirty, sandy wedge probably won't do much.

Take the same ball and beat it into a net with driver or irons and it won't have any dimples in short order.

Hey..... I have to disagree... LOL..

I have been beating golf balls into a net for a month and a half and so far I only broke one; it was a softer 2 piece ball but I used that and others like it because it made more sense for the net.

The offending broken ball still had its dimples; as do the others. 😄 😄 😄

In my experience I wouldn’t worry about pitches/chips. Worry about full swings and bunker shots. I’ve broken a few balls when I had a practice net in my backyard just banging away with 7irons for 100 shots or so. Recently in an indoor simulator my brother and I broke a new chrome soft after about 60 full swings.

I'm not worried about the golf ball breaking lol. I'm worried about getting used to the performance of the beat up practice balls, and then when its tournament time the new proVs arent spinning like I'm used to.

I have a shag tube of tour b x balls...about a dozen. They stay in my trunk. They're about 1.5 years old. They still check like new and new balls aren't different.

I wouldn't worry about it.
