Qi10 LS 8.0 Face Popped Out

This video epitomizes tm right now. The cost to get a retail version dialed in like this…just for the face to dislodge and start all over. Brutal.

I’ll be sticking sim

I just watched this earlier tonight and was thinking the exact same thing about how wild it is that it takes that much work to dial in an off the shelf driver..

Just for the #’s to be the same as the last 3 years. Totally good with upgrading equipment for fun/dial in your swing as your game changes. But seeing this video knowing many players need that kinda treatment to get it “right” at 120 chs for the $ we pay is comedy. I’ve cracked a sim & a s2+ but now Qi doing it too after “durability improvements” is pure comedy.

The reason I made this comment, I purchased a used Sim on eBay and had it replaced with a Sim 2 after the sole cracked.

It may just depend on who you talk to in their warranty claims dept.

I hardly think carbon faces are as innovative as they claim but mostly production, cost, and material savings. I would imagine these drivers are very cheap to produce.

Sucks as I have done that in the past with previous R or M series TM drivers, but awful QC and standing behind their product if they are continuing to sell easily broken products and then be stingy and slow with replacements. GL to OP on getting the replacement!

Ah yes.. the TSR3. One hell of a driver! But to be honest, I actually just cracked the face on my TSR3 (how I ended up with the Qi10 lol).

Serious question as someone that beats balls with a driver as much as anyone and has enough speed to be concerned about these things, where/what do you practice with? Two failures on completely different new model drivers would have me looking at the range/range balls in play first. I've been *trying* to get my TSi to fail lol.

That's true, but who wants to go spend $500-$700 knowing it will need to be replaced in it's first year of life?

You mean replaced with a brand new head with brand new resale value? C'mon man, glass half full here. 😆

Yeah no issues yet knock on wood.  I was in a sim last weekend and was 117-118 pretty much all day Aerojet has survived. 🤣

Maybe we should go back to using wood.

Ok, quick and interesting update. The local store that I bought it from notified me about an 8.0 model that had come in and asked if I would like that as my replacement, to which I happily agreed. Went to the range the next day and it was smooth sailing up until ball 20ish? Mishit it somewhere high toe and the head made a “squeal-ish / high pitch” noise on the follow through. Best way I can describe the noise is that the air within the head is escaping / squeezing through a very tiny hole after contact 🤷🏻‍♂️

I had a friend who was in the range stall directly behind me listen and confirmed that I wasn’t hearing things. We both just laughed and shook our heads after I was able to recreate the noise on the first try.

I checked the face / head for obvious signs of damage / defects but wasn’t able to find anything.

I’m overseas at the moment and will request for an exchange again when I get back home. Overall, I’m a touch disappointed with “my experience” so far with the Qi10 LS “8.0” but at the same time, I truly love what TaylorMade has made this year. The flight is powerful and pretty much exactly what I was looking for (lower and less spiny). This is definitely not a “repackaged Stealth”. I hit both Stealth models and neither was comparable to what I could produce with the Qi10.

Ok gotta go! Thailand is calling 😎

Yikes.  I'm the same ss as you and I'm kinda glad I decided to go with the AI Smoke TD.  Don't get me wrong, I'm a TM fan boy.  On the flip side, titanium faces do crack...........

Basic metallurgy issues here.

It's much, much easier to weld different metals together (ie titanium face to a steel frame) than it is to bond carbon fiber to a metal frame.

Add to that the stress directed onto that clubface at ball impact is then transmitted into whatever epoxy they are bonding that face to the frame. That's asking a lot from epoxy. Hit enough balls off the hosel of that driver and the shaft will eventually decouple from the adapter too.

There's probably a reason that Callaway, Ping, Titleist and Mizuno haven't released a carbon face driver following TM.

This is what I was concerned about happening, and over here the replacement doesn't happen very quickly or at all if they deem it wilfully damaged.  It's a pity because I really thought the LS was a good looking driver and decent numbers.
