Toe hang question

I happen to play with an plumber style putter since… well foreever.

My main miss is that i hit the ball with a close face. To help with that, would it better with a full toe hang like a number 9 or more with a face balance putter?

The general rule of thumb would be to try more toe hang but everyone’s different. And of course with everything golf, it might be technique more than equipment but who am I to stop you from tinkering. Maybe start with a cheap slant neck and see how it works?

Nothing is really set it's all about your tempo and closure rate and timing that up to a putter. So could mean that someone may need more toe hang or potentially less toe hang and weight can factor in as well.

I'm going to assume you're in a 350g blade with a plumbers neck. If your tempo is on the slower side try something face balanced like a Spider mallet or Odyssey since theyre easy to find and if you're quicker go with a flow or slant neck blade.

Easiest way to see if this works get a Srixon Divide ball, Triple Track 360 or draw a line around the ball. Place that towards your target if the line rolls end over end your face is square at impact and no more closure.

For me, more toe hang shows closure rate and helps avoid a pull - I’ve been on a SAM puttlab several times and it also suggests 60-80* toe hang for me as I have a tendency to close the face a bit too much at impact. I think this is one of the more individual things in golf however.

I also tend to get along better with flow necks than plumber necks. The reduced offset seems to help the same as it would with irons, in addition to preferring the look.

Toe hang helps. How much, is hard to say.

I can't say changing putter style will alleviate your closed face stroke.

Since 2012 I have used one-full-offset, SC Monterey plumbers neck, medium toe hang, before that straight - face balanced putter. Make more putts with current style than previous putter.
