Open Wedge Face

I saw an article and and aide but can't find it again.  It basically showed that you can open the wedge face and by lowering the handle, it keeps the wedge face square to the target line and you can keep your stance square.  I've never really seen that before.  Thoughts?  How does it work?

I believe you are thinking of a person saying IF you open the face, lower the handle.

I believe that lowering the handle adds loft without opening the face. You don't keep the face open and square at the same time. At least my understanding.

The leading edge is open, but the surface of the face is square so ball starts straight.

Already beyond my level of comprehension. I always thought open meant pointing to the right of the target - no?

Wedges have enough loft that you can point the leading edge 45° open to your target, but lower the handle enough so the surface of the face still points at the target. Gotta think in three dimensions.

You can test it with a plastic straw and some clay/putty/tape.  Affix the straw to the club face on the sweet spot and set up square.  Open the face, look where the straw points.  Then lower the handle and see where it points now.  

 

At higher lofts, opening the face has more of an impact on vertical direction than horizontal direction.  Lowering the hands after opening the face points the face back to the target.

Yup. That actually helps more than the video clip. That's always the way I set up in bunkers but not for standard pitches. Never thought about it before

The thing I'm referring to was actually an alignment aid that went on the club face like a sticker.  Someone posted it on the Lab Golf page on FB.  Been looking all afternoon and can't find it. Thanks for the input so far!
