Info needed on MacGregor Jimmy Demaret persimmon woods

I recently picked up a MacGregor “Jimmy Demaret” persimmon driver and 3 wood at a thrift store. They both look to be newly refinished and are in amazing condition.

Looking for information on these clubs, including value.

Great looking clubs for a thrift store pick up. You did well. Value is very subjective as it all depends on what someone is willing to pay. That being said, the majority of persimmons don’t hold the heck a lot of value. These would fall into that same category. They look like great clubs to play though.

Thanks. I didn't think they were worth that much but I sure like looking at them. Might take them out this summer along with my Ram forged irons and bullseye putter.

Whoever did the resto is a true professional. The detail involved with the lettering paintfill itself indicates excellent craftsmanship.

As best I can date these, they are from around 1950. Kaplan shows Jimmy Demaret Master woods with the clover leaf decal on the crown in 1949 and again in 1951 but neither with the 362 model number.

We don't like discussing value here but given that they are "early" MacGregor blocks and look to be in excellent restored condition they would be collectable and, in my mind, of above average value. Value is of course relative and "above average" in persimmon terms is still not a lot of money and a fraction of what people seem happy to pay for modern frying pans on sticks. Counter intuitive to me when you consider the age, craftsmanship and beauty of these early persimmons compared to the ugly mass produced gimmicky, junk people play with today. No debate as to which I prefer.

Thanks very much for the info. I paid $12.99 each for them. I also picked up some restored Stan Thompson Ginty woods for $7.99 each. Thinking about it, I kind of don't want to hit them because they're so cool and beautiful looking. I agree with you; modern clubs look cheap and contrived compared to the classic persimmon woods and forged blades of yesteryear.

OH NO! They are soooo cool and beautiful - you gotta use them, if for no other reason to honor the makers, to respect their designs - which the designers made to be played. I'll lay you some odds that Jimmy Demaret & Stan Thompson would urge you to play & enjoy their creations

You're right! Golf clubs are meant to be played, not looked at longingly. I'll take them out soon!

Gotta admit that if I ever find a set of Hogan Starburst Saber's that I can afford .... even if in perfect condition - I'd play 'em

What a great find and pick up, I hope you enjoy them both to look at and play.

By odd coincidence, I posted details of my Stan Thompson at the same time as my comment above. If you are interested, there is an excellent history of Stan Thompson by esteemed brother @deejaidon a thread here (Hand tailored to the Ginty....Stan Thompson). I am not savvy enough to add a link but if you search Stan Thomson on here you will find it. Well worth a read and @deejaidhas illustrated with pictures of his fabulous collection.
