One length one lie VS One length variable lie Cobra irons

This happens a few times a year.  I get sidelined and laid up and start researching one length irons out of boredom, I have some questions:

First off I own a set of F7 One Length irons, the shaft is a little soft for me but I can make them work.  I've only played them a few times but did ok when I did play them as long as I took it easy.

I'm contemplating a set of Speed Zone OL heads to build up.  They have variable lies with the longer irons at 64* and the wedge at 61*.  There must be a reason for this?  Either for trajectory or setup, I can't really pinpoint why they would do it but there has to be a reason.

IIRC the variable lie version also group irons into lengths that vary slightly depending on if they are long or short.  I'm hoping someone can comment on how the differences worked for them.

Thanks

Cobra changed to variable lies in the one length irons beginning with the F8, or the generation made after your F7 irons.

Supposedly, the variable lies allow for better contact. There are some threads on this approach but see below excerpt from another golf website ( apparently sourced via Cobra) that talks about this issue.

Hope this helps.

“…Cobra discovered while working with Bryson DeChambeau (and we discovered during our testing) is that despite identical lengths and weights, golfers still swing ONE Length long irons faster than ONE Length short irons. …The consequence of that is that long iron shafts will bend a bit differently than middle iron shafts and short iron shafts. The way the dynamics of shaft work, we already see progressively less toe down (more upright impact lie) as shafts get shorter and clubhead speed slows. It’s the reason why many coaches and fitters advocate for flatter lie angles in wedges.

To account for differing amounts of toe down, Cobra has implemented a lie angle progression with F8 ONE. The short irons have flatter lie angles than the mid irons, and the mid irons are flatter than the long irons. …What you need to take away from this is that Cobra is tuning lie angles such that when the dynamic forces (the bending and twisting of the shaft during the swing) are applied, the lie angles at impact are more consistent through the F8 ONE set….”

I have an F9 4 iron that I just put back in the bag to play around with.
It is fun as a tee club for when driver is too long or if I must 1000% eliminate the right side on a shot. But it is just waaaay too upright.

I love how easy it is to make contact while still getting good distance. But it is a hook machine due to being so upright and the progressive lie angle make no sense for how I swing. I’d like to see if a shop is willing to try to bend it flatter.

This.

Cobra uses the same shaft as is in the normal club that means they will have 5 iron shaft albeit shorter but with a 7 iron weight head that pretty much means they need it because of how much more the shaft droop is.

This makes it easier to get the long irons off the deck since more head weight effectively soft steps the shaft but yea Hella more droop from what I understand.

After buying some Radspeed one lengths I had to bend them all to the same lie angle before they worked for me. In stock form the 5i consistently pulled left and PW faded right. Now they all go pretty straight. In my opinion there is not enough toe droop on a 37" club to merit a lie angle adjustment & Cobra just overthought the concept. Easy enough to bend and the heads themselves play great 👌

Agree.  I'm on all the same lie angle and will keep them this way.  I did take a chance on Cobra LTDx one length hybrids in 21* and 24* lofts and am very happy with them.  Several places are blowing them out brand new for half price.
